Harold Brooks
ALBUQUERQUE — Funeral services for Harold Brooks, 50, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, July 24, at Rollie Mortuary Palm Chapel. Private disposition will be in Yellowhorse family cemetery.
Brooks died July 20, 2010, in Albuquerque. He was born Nov. 24, 1959, in Fort Defiance, into the Towering House People Clan.
Brooks was a mechanic, top-shelf, all of his life. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed watching car races.
Survivors include his parents, Mary Ann Brooks, Harold Brooks Sr.; brothers, Tyrone Brooks, Robert Williams; sisters, Norma Baldonado, Stormy Rains.
Brooks was preceded in death by his grandmother, Anna Beasley.
Pallbearers will be Michael Baldonado, Christopher Baldonado, Stewart Yellowhorse, David Yellowhorse, Jack Duckett Jr., Tom Yellowhorse.
The family will receive relatives and friends at John Yellowhorse’s residence, Lupton, following services.

Paul Landavazo
FREMONT, Calif. — Memorial services in Gallup, are pending for Paul Landavazo, 81.
Landavazo died July 19, 2010. He was born Oct. 29, 1928, in Gallup.
Landavazo served in the Korean War 45th Infantry Division, 180th HV Motor Co-Thunderbird- 1950-1953. He was an excellent bowler and golfer and enjoyed going to the horse races in Pleasanton.
He worked for Landavazo Concrete for 40 years and was the owner of “The Turquoise Shop” in Niles, Calif. for 35 years. He moved to Fremont with his family in 1960. He was a very hard worker and if you needed help he was always ready with a helping hand. Landavazo enjoyed traveling to Gallup every summer for the Inter-Tribal Ceremonial’s. While there he would travel to Zuni to buy jewelry and enjoyed all the beans, tortillas, red and green chile that he could eat.
Survivors include his children, Roger, Allen, Lorilei, Louie, Felicia, Paula, Mark; 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.
Francis Carroll Jr.
WHEATFIELDS — Services for Francis Carroll Jr., 52, will be 1 p.m., today, July 23, at St. Berard Catholic Church, Navajo. Deacon Wilson Gorman will officiate. Burial will be in Wheatfields.
Visitation will be 12 p.m., at St. Berard Catholic Church.
Carroll died July 16, 2010, in Gallup. He was born April 11, 1958, in Fort Defiance, into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Coyote Pass People Clan.
Carroll was employed with former NFPI as a logger. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, hiking and making his own traditional songs.
Survivors include his sons, Taylor Carroll, Myron Carroll, Lance Carroll, of Wheatfields, Delford Carroll, Zachary Carroll, Murrey Carroll, Jerimiah Carroll, of Spider Rock, Travis Carroll of Navajo; daughters, Marlo Davis, Andrea Carroll of Wheatfields, Michelle Carroll, Lakisha Carroll of Spider Rock; father, Francis Carroll Sr.; brothers, Frank Carroll, Roy Carroll, Franklin Carroll, all of Wheatfields; sisters, Nellie Carroll of Rabbit Brush, Lillie D. Yazzie, Kathryn Carroll of Navajo, Alice John of Wheatfields, Gloria Bahe of Chinle; 22 grandchildren.
Carroll was preceded in death by his mother, Alice White Carroll; brothers, Benjamin Carroll, Frankie Carroll; sister, Amelia Carroll.
Pallbearers will be Merlin DeChee, Patrick DeChee, Ren Carroll, Frantino Carroll, Taylor Carroll, Lance Carroll.
The family will receive relative and friends at Francis Carroll Sr. residence, of Wheatfields.

Jimmy Etsitty
TSAYATOH — Funeral services for Jimmy John Etsitty, 91, were 10 a.m., today, July 23, at Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup. Burial will be in Rehoboth.
Etsitty died July 20, 2010, in Gallup. He was born Sept. 15, 1918, in Gallup, into the Edge Water People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.
Survivors include his daughters, Nellie T. Yazza, Mary E. Davis, Tanya S. Etsitty-DuBoise; brother, Tom Joe Etsitty; sister, Mary Etsitty; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
Etsitty was preceded in death by his sister, Nazabah Spencer; brothers, Floyd Etsitty Sr., Tom Hudson, Tom Jim Etsitty; parents, Atcitty Begay, Nedebah Begay.
Emerson Nelson Sr.
CHICHILTAH — Funeral services for Emerson L. Nelson Sr., 51, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, July 24, at Oakview Bible Church, Chichiltah. Jimmy Francisco will officiate. Bruial will be in family plot, Jones Ranch.
Nelson died July 21, 2010, in Chichiltah. He was born June 27, 1959, in Black Rock, into the Red Bottom People Clan for the Folded Arms People Clan.
Nelson graduated from Wingate High School. He worked on the railroad and construction. His hobbies included attending and helping with rodeos. He enjoyed reading and riding bulls and broncs. He loved spending time with his family and helping others. He will be missed and remembers by his jokes.
Survivors include his sons, Jonathan L. Nelson of Albuquerque, Emerson Nelson Jr., of Albuquerque; daughter, Connie L. Nelson of Albuquerque; father, John B. Nelson of Jones Ranch; brothers, Tommy Nelson of Chichiltah, Harry Nelson of Vanderwagen, Phillip Nelson of Jones Ranch, Harrison Nelson of Chilchiltah; sisters, Verdie Nelson of Lawrence, Kan., Ruth Nelson of Chichiltah.
Nelson was preceded in death by his mother, Bah Yazzie Nelson; brother, Henry Nelson; grandmother, Betty T. Smith; grandfather, Tom Smith.
Pallbearers will be Ray Francisco, Jonathan Nelson, Lionel Nelson, Thus Nelson, Stanford Nez, Frankie T. Skeeti.

Phyllis Tom
MANUELITO CANYON — Funeral services for Phyllis Lee Tom, 58, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, July 24, at Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup. The Rev. Joe M. Lee will officiate. Burial will be in Manuelito Canyon.
Tom died July 19, 2010, in Albuquerque. She was born in Manuelito Canyon, into the Sleeping Rock People Clan for the Black Sheep People Clan.
Tom attended Wingate High School. She was a member of the Native American Church. She worked with Head Start, summer youth, Wingate High School board member, rural addressing, cook for senior citizens, work at Wendy’s and community involvement with various activities.
Survivors include her husband, Ray James Tom of Manuelito Canyon; sons, Fredson Tom, Philbert Tom, both of Manuelito Canyon; daughter, Sarita M. Tom of Manuelito; parents, Nora Lee Yazzie, James B. Yazzie; brothers, Terry Lee of Manuelito Canyon, Terral Yazzie of Manuelito Canyon; sisters, Fannie Mae James of Manuelito Canyon, Eleanor Lee of Albuquerque, Lucy M. Hunch of Rock Springs, Kathleen Lee of Red Rock, Sarah Lee Hunch of Mentmore; grandmother, Daisy Lee; 10 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Lawrence Lee, Shawnston Tom, Letonson Tom, Leander Tom, Leonardo Jim, Billie James III.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Ray Tom’s residence’s, Rt. #732, Manuelito Canyon.
