Richard Benally

ST. MICHAELS — Funeral services for Richard Benally, 64, will be 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 5, at St. Michaels Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Michaels Cemetery. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m., Feb. 5.

Benally was born March 14, 1945, in Ganado, into the Black Streaked Wood People Clan for the Cliff Dwelling People Clan.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice Benally; son, Ronnie Benallie; daughters, Loretta Owens, Matilda Yazzie; parents, Louise Benally Yazzie, Ben Benally Sr.; brothers, Francis Benally, Ben Benally Jr., Gilbert Yazzie; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Benally was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond Benally, James Benally; sisters, Julie Benally, Mary Louise Yazzie.

Josephine Burns

MILAN — Services are pending for Josephine Burns, 89.

Burns died Feb. 1, 2010, in Grants. She was born Aug. 4, 1920, in Grants.

Gary Coan

SAN RAFAEL — Private services for Gary David Coan, 65, will be at a later date.

Coan died Jan. 30, 2010, in Grants. He was born Jan. 15, 1945, in Bloomington, Indiana.

Coan was retired from Cibola County Schools and the New Mexico State University.

Emma Joe

HOUCK — Funeral Mass for Emma Kay Joe, 90, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, at Houck Catholic Church, Houck. The Rev. Cormac Antram will officiate. Burial will bein Houck. Visitation will be 9 a.m., Feb. 4, at Houck Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m., tonight, Feb. 3, at Houck Catholic Church.

Joe died Jan. 30, 2010, in Querino Canyon. She was born Sept. 28, 1919, in Querino Canyon, into the Na’teezhi Dine ‘Tacheenie People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Joe was a traditional rug weaver and dyed her own wool from plants. She was a homemaker, livestock owner and participated in traditional ceremonies, did beadwork, made sash belts and basket weaving. She was once a supervisor to teach others in the community to learn to weave rugs and sash belts.

Survivors include her sons, Art Ben Watchman of Houck, Jr. Joe of Mesa; daughter, Char James of Houck; brother, Benjamin Murphy of Houck; 23 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchild.

Joe was preceded in death by her parents, Pat and Edith Murphy; son, James Watchman Sr.; brothers, Tom Murphy, George Murphy, Sam Murphy, Walter Cronemyer, Donald Murphy; sisters, Annie Apache, Margaret Custer, Charlie Watchman, Tom K. Joe.

Pallbearers will be Ardell Watchman, Gary Custer, Jr. Joe, Artremos Watchman, Leland Lashie, Brandon Shorty.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Houck Chapter House, following services.

Wilferd Molina

GRANTS — Services for Wilferd Molina, 45, will be 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 5, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Burial will be in Grants Memorial Park. The Very Rev. Alberto Avella will officiate. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Molina died Jan 29, 2010, in Grants. He was born Aug. 3, 1964, in Grants.

Survivors include his wife, Ranell Ramirez Molina of Grants; children, Walter Molina of Las Vegas, Nev., Matthew Molina of Phoenix, Ashley Molina of Phoenix, Santana Ramirez of Grants, Palmira Ramirez of Grants, Lisa Sanchez of Grants; brother, Barney Molina of Grants; sisters, Pauline Lovato of Bluewater, Helen Lovato of Grants, Lisa Chavez of Albuquerque, Frances Lopez of Rio Rancho, Sally Sanchez of Grants, Bonnie Garcia of Grants, Rose Lopez of Grants; four grandchildren.

Molina was preceded in death by his parents, Adelaudo Molina, Veronica Gutierrez Molina; sister, Marcella M. Porter.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Lopez Jr., Louie Lovato, Andrew Molina, William Nelson Sr., Frankie Lovato Jr., Raynaldo Chavez Jr., Ryan Lovato, Juan Molina.

Kathryn Polacca

CRYSTAL — Rosary for Kathryn Arviso Polacca, 87, will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, at St. Berard Church, Navajo.

Polacca died Jan. 28, 2010, in near Crystal. She was born July 4, 1911.

Polacca attended school at St. Catherine’s in Santa Fe, St. Michaels, and BYU in Provo, Utah. Polacca was a teacher and a civil servant. She retired from teaching for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1975. After retirement, she was a part-time rancher and farmer in Crystal. Polacca leaves behind a legacy of hard work, independence and self-assertion.

Survivors include her sisters, Loncie Brown of Crystal, Frances Toney of Crownpoint.

Polacca was preceded in death by her parents, Howella and Ruth Arviso Polacca; son, Irvin Peshlakai; siblings, Dorothy Dixon, Marilyn Polacca, Dixie Dixon, Percy Polacca, Lafie Polacca, Howella Polacca Jr.

Josie Quintana

MILAN — Memorial services for Josie B. Quintana, 75, were 10 a.m., today, Feb. 3, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Grants.

Quintana died Jan. 30, 2010, in Grants. She was born April 22, 1934, in El Pueblo.

Survivors include her husband, Aldofo R. Quintana of Milan; children, Frank Quintana, Bill Aldofo Quintana, Sarah Ann Gallegos; four grandchildren.

Quintana was preceded in death by her parents, Menigildo Bustamante, Ferminia Bustamante; brothers; sisters.
