Eloise Gorman

HOUCK — Funeral services for Eloise Carol Gorman, 86, will be 10 a.m., April 27, at Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup. Paul Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Gallup.

Gorman died April 22, 2009, in Winslow. She was born June 7, 1922, in Houck, into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan.

Gorman went to school in Fort Defiance and moved to California in 1947. She worked at the Marine Corps Supply Center in Barston, Calif., until her retirement in 1970. She was instrumental in starting the Navajo Club and helping Navajos in the California area. She returned to Houck, in 1980 to care for her mother.

Survivors include her son, Frank R. Gorman of Houck; daughter, Veronica Kennedy of Mesa; parents, Mary Allen and Joe Allen of Houck; brother, Henry Allen of Daggett, Calif.; sisters, Stella Chichilly of Houck, Nellie Baldwin of Houck; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Gorman was preceded in death by Steven Gorman.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Lion’s Club, Gallup, following services. The family will meet 9 a.m.-12 p.m., at Houck Chapter House.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Edison Henry

BECENTI — Funeral services for Edison Bill Henry, 84, will be 10 a.m., Monday, April 27, at New Testament Holiness Church, Crownpoint. Brother Samuel Walker will officiate. Burial will be in Antelope Lookout, family cemetery, Crownpoint.

Henry died April 22, 2009, in Crownpoint. He was born April 14, 1925, in Naschitti, into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Salt People Clan.
Henry attended 3rd grade but didn’t complete it. He worked on the railroad from age 17 in 1941 to 1969. From 1969 to 1979, he worked with the Crownpoint Police Department as a jailer. After 1979 to 1997, Henry worked odd jobs. He enjoyed helping people with sheep herding, fixing houses, shearing and mechanic work. His hobbies include reading his Navajo Bible, going to church, watching the Price is Right and Western Movies. Henry’s favorite actor was Roy Rogers.

Survivors include his sons, Lincoln Notah of Naschitti, Michael Bill Henry; daughters, Victoria Henry of Crownpoint, Marilyn Henry of Crownpoint; brothers, Haskia Hall of Naschitti, Eddie Bill Henry of Smith Lake, Chester Henry of Coolidge; sister, Marion Newman of Naschitti; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Henry was preceded in death by his father, John Henry; mother, Mary H. Benally; wife, Marie H. Henry; sons, Jerry David, Mitchell Henry; daughter, Susan M. Begay; brothers, Edmund J. Henry, Paul Henry.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Ration, Adam R. Ration, Aaron K. Toledo, William K. Toledo, Michael B. Henry, Leland G. Begay.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Becenti Chapter House, Crownpoint, Following services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
