GALLUP — Former Gallup resident Prakash Sundaram is starting a $15 million project between Quality Inn and Applebee’s, to the south of Home Depot.

The Hilton Garden Inn, being developed and built at 1530 W. Maloney, is expected to take about 14 months to complete. It will be built by Sundaram Builders, and much of the work will go out to bid to local subcontractors. The facility will have about 5,000 square feet of meeting space, Sundaram said. “It will have a restaurant, lounge, indoor pool, exercise room, Jacuzzi and it will have suites, including a governor’s suite, in case the governor or President Obama decide to visit,” he said.

A lounge?

“We are working on getting a liquor license,” Sundaram said.

Sundaram’s business, Total Management System, is applying for a building permit in the next couple of days, Sundaram said in a telephone interview from his Albuquerque office.

The project alone will surpass by 20 percent Gallup’s $12.6 million worth of construction in 2008.

Sundaram also owns the Quality Inn and Suites and his business developed the infrastructure between Applebee’s and Quality Inn.
