Nellie Hosteen

COTTONWOOD — Services for Nellie Rose Hosteen, 73, will be 11 a.m.,Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church, Chinle. Burial will be in family private land, Cottonwood.

Hosteen died Feb. 13, 2009, in Flagstaff. She was born Jan. 24, 1936, in Salina Springs, Chinle, into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Near the Water Edge People Clan.

Hosteen was a homemaker. She was a board member with Chinle Valley School for exceptional children.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Hosteen Sr.; son, Dannie Hosteen, Ray Hosteen Jr.; daughters, Rita Lee, Marcella Melton, Loretta Draper, Brenda Hosteen, Bessie Hosteen; mother, Zonnie Charley; brothers, Thomas Charley, Henry Charley; sister, Sallie C. Begay; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Hosteen was preceded in death by her father, Tom Charley; sister, Hasbah Moore; two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dannie Hosteen, Ray Hosteen Jr.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Hosteen’s residence.

Emery Joe

SMOOTH MOUNTAIN, Chichiltah — Funeral services for Emery Grant Joe, 43, will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Rollie Mortuary, Gallup. Burial will be in family private plot, Smooth Mountain.

Joe died Feb. 11, 2009, in Gallup. He was born Sept. 13, 1965, in Blackrock, Zuni, into the Red Bottom People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Joe graduated from Gallup High School. His hobbies included socializing with family and friends, camping and fishing, having fun with his children.

Survivors include his sons, Emmett Joe of Twin Lakes, Filbert Joe of Twin Lakes; father, Harry Joe of Cousins; brothers, Felix Joe of Blue Medicine Well; sisters, Patsy Antonio of Albuquerque, Darlene Nez of Fort Defiance, Kathleen Hosteen of Cousins, Miranda Begay of Coyote Canyon.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Donbah Joe; sisters, Juanita Joe, Bessie Yazzie.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Hosteen, Michael Denetso, Derrick Badonie, Felix Joe, James Hosteen, Bill Yazzie.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

CROWNPOINT — Funeral services are pending for Rev. John N. Lewis, Sr., 73, The Rev. Lewis died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, in Crownpoint. He was born May 5, 1935, in Coyote Canyon.

Calvin Smith

GALLUP — Services are pending for Calvin Carl Smith, 27.

Smith died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, in Gallup. He was born March 22, 1981, in Albuquerque, into the Black Streak of Forest People Clan for the Mexican People Clan.

A family gathering for friends and relatives will be 6 p.m., tonight, Feb. 16, at Mexican Springs Chapter House, Mexican Springs.

Hazel Watchman

SHEEPSPRINGS — Funeral services for Hazel Watchman, 47, will be Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Desert View Funeral Home Chapel, Shiprock. Interment will follow at the Naschitti Community Cemetery.

Watchman died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, in Shiprock. She was born Jan. 15, 1962, in Shiprock.

Ona Whitehead

GRANTS — Funeral services for Ona Victoria Manning Whitehead, 90, will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Compassion Mortuary. Burial will be in Grants Memorial Park. The Rev. Garland Moore will officiate.

Whitehead died Feb. 11, 2009, in Grants. She was born Feb. 21, 1918, in Mountainair, N.M.

Whitehead was a charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Milan. One of her enjoyments was competing in Senior Olympics in swimming, where she won many medals and honors in swimming on local, state and national levels. Whitehead helped her husband with rental properties in the Grants area, and worked for the Grants Municipal schools for fifteen years as a librarian.

Survivors include her daughter, Sheron Whitehead Cinta; sisters, Louise Bickham, Fern King; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

Whitehead was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde (Hoss) Whitehead; parents, Vannie and Vick Manning; brothers, Seth Manning, Everett Manning; sisters, Effie Nickolson, Shirley Chavez; son, Clyde Victor Whitehead.

Michele Wilson-White

NASCHITTI — Funeral services for Michele Lynn Wilson-White, 40, will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Church, Sheepsprings.  Interment will follow at the Naschitti Community Cemetery.

Wilson-White died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, in Naschitti. She born Sept. 12, 1968, in Shiprock.
