Boy’s competency hearing delayed

ST. JOHNS — A competency hearing for Christian Ryan Romero has been rescheduled from Friday to Feb. 27.

Dr. Daniel Cady is set to testify at 9 a.m., and Dr. Bradley R. Johnson is set to testify at 1 p.m.

Romero is the 9-year-old boy accused of killing his father Vincent Romero and his father’s friend Tim Romans who was renting a room at their home.

Apache County Superior Court Judge Michael P. Roca issued the order Tuesday resetting the competency hearing date.

Former Shiprock man gets 4+ years

WINDOW ROCK — Dewayne Parrish, 24, of Shiprock and Albuquerque was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge Frederick J. Martone to 51 months in federal prison after Parrish pleaded guilty Nov. 14 to being a felon who possessed a firearm.

On March 24, 2008, Parrish waived a pistol around at some boys who reported the incident to tribal police. The tribal police in Kayenta arrested Parrish, who has a prior conviction for burglary and cannot legally possess a firearm.

The case was investigated by the Kayenta Police Department and the FBI in Flagstaff, Ariz. The prosecution was handled by Roger Dokken, assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona.

4-H meeting next week
Cibola County Bureau

GRANTS — The Cibola County 4-H Council, composed of youth members of various 4-H clubs, plans to meet at 6 p.m., Feb. 17.

The council will meet in the New Mexico State University Cooperative Extension offices at the Future Foundations Family Center, 550 W. Washington Ave.

Often 4-H programs, projects, events and other business is discussed following parliamentary procedure.

Often, the 4-H budget and finance committee will have items that need discussing for spending money on projects.

The meeting is open to all 4-H members, leaders, family members and the public.

2008 Navajo code book available

WINDOW ROCK — The Office of Legislative Counsel has the new 2008 edition of the Navajo Nation Code Annotated available for purchase.

The 2008 pocket parts to supplement the four-volume hard bound book versions are currently available. Orders will be taken for the 2008 CD ROM versions for computer use.

The prices for the new 2008 edition of the Navajo Nation Code Annotated are $165 for four volumes of a hard bound book set with pocket parts; $80 for the CD ROM version; $65 for pocket parts only; and $230 for the four volume book set with pocket parts and the CD ROM version.

These prices do not include the Navajo Nation 4 percent sales tax or shipping and handling fees.
