Convicted killer to be sentenced Monday Copyright © 2009 GRANTS Convicted killer Angel Arrendondo will appear in the 13th Judicial District Court for sentencing Monday on seven charges stemming from an incident in Milan in 2003. Arrendondo, who was charged with the murder of 60-year-old Alfredo Aragon and other offenses occurring in Milan on Nov. 22, 2003, was convicted last November on one count of first-degree murder, two counts of attempt to commit a felony, two counts of abandonment or abuse of a child, tampering with evidence, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, firearm enhancement for a felon and criminal damage of less than $1000. He was found not guilty of a second count of attempted first-degree murder. Arrendondo, 35, was first charged in Grants Magistrate Court Nov. 11, 2003 when a warrant for his arrest was issued in Grants Magistrate Court. He fled New Mexico before he was apprehended. Arrendondo was known in California as a gang member. Court records indicate that the warrant was served in Los Angles County in December of that year, but Arrendondo was being held in California in connection with murder charges there at the time. He was returned to New Mexico in January 2004 and indicted in by a 13th Judicial District grand jury in October 2004. In August 2008 while being held in custody, Arrendondo was charged with bringing contraband into jail, criminal solicitation and trafficking a controlled substance with intent for offenses allegedly committed in July 2008. Trial for the offenses is set for Monday. |
