GALLUP — An Arizona woman was flown to University Hospital in Albuquerque Sunday after she hanged herself at NCI.

Employees of the Na’nizhozhi Center, Inc. drug and alcohol detoxification facility at 2205 E. Boyd Ave. found the woman hanging from a red shoestring inside the ladies room around 7:15 p.m. Sunday, according to Gallup Police Detective Lt. Rick White. White said police do not suspect foul play.

NCI staff cut the string upon finding the 26-year-old Native American woman, and transported her to a local hospital.

She was later flown to Albuquerque. The woman’s condition remains unknown at 8 a.m. Monday, but White said her injuries could prove fatal.

The woman’s name is not being released yet because her family has not been notified.
