Mystery men assault, shoot
Tohatchi man

GALLUP — A 24-year-old Tohatchi man was treated Saturday at a local hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg.
Deputy Police Chief John Allen, a spokesman for the Gallup Police Department, said Jamison Henry told police he was walking in the area of 500 Clark Street when he was confronted by three unidentified men. One was armed with a baseball bat, one with a handgun and the other was unarmed.

Henry told authorities he was able to fight the man with the bat off, but the third man aimed the handgun at his head. A struggle ensued and the gun was accidentally fired when Henry took the firearm away from his assailant. He was struck in the leg.

His attackers then fled the scene and have not been arrested in connection with the incident.

Henry was not seriously injured during the attack, but was treated and released from the Gallup Indian Medical Center Saturday.

Allen said the investigation is ongoing.

“We are trying to confirm the veracity of this statement,” Allen said Monday morning.

The firearm has not been recovered and descriptions of the suspects were not provided.
