Norman Joe

ST. MICHAELS — Funeral Mass for Norman “Storm” Joe, 49, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at St. Michael Mary Mother of Man Kind Catholic Church. Rev. Cormac Antram, O.F.M. will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael Community Cemetery. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. April 16, at St. Michael Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited 6 p.m., today, April 15, at St. Michael Catholic Church.

Joe died April 12, 2008, St. Michael. He was born March 25, 1959, in Fort Defiance, into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Salt People Clan.

Joe was a Navajo Seasonal Scouts Firefighter and a former Navajo Nation Police Officer. He received a NASA Recovery Effort Award, Katrina Efforts Recognition.

Survivors include his son, Marvin Yazzie; daughters, Brianna Joe, Myra Joe, Lisa Benally; father, Charlie Joe; brother, Raymond Joe; sisters, Sarah Joe, Louise Gould, Marilyn Joe, Lorraine Tsosie, Darlene Benally; eight grandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Sadie Y. Joe; brothers, Michael Calvin Joe, Ernest Joe, Donald Joe.

Pallbearers will be Omar Benally, Augustine Benally Jr., Leander Tsosie, Michael Benally, Lionel Tsosie, and Jeff Gould.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Marilyn Joe’s residence after services.

O’Neil Jones

OAKLAND, Calif. — Services for O’Neil Jones, 41, were April 4, 2008 in Oakland.

Jones died April 1, 2008, in Fresno, CA. He was born Dec. 5, 1966, in Oakland., into the Mississippi Band Choctaw People Clan for the Navajo Edge Water People Clan.

Jones attended Roosevelt Jr. High School in Calif., and Wingate High School. He enjoyed being around family and friends and made an impact on all those he encountered.

Survivors include his mother, Earline Jones Lemoore of California; sister, Lana Marquez of Daly City, CA.; brother, Ryan Jones of Fremont, CA.

Jones was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Jones Sr.; brother, Alfred Jones Jr.; grandfather, Ralph Jones; grandmother, Alice Jones.

Richard Kruis

GAMERCO — Services are pending for Richard Kruis, 90.

Kruis died Monday, April 14, 2008, in Gallup. He was born May 14, 1917, in Jamestown.

Kenneth Largo

CONTINENTAL DIVIDE — Services for Kenneth Wilson Largo, 79, will be announced at a later date.

Largo died Sunday, April 13, 2008, in Crownpoint. He was born March 15, 1929, in Mariano Lake, into the Red Running Into the Water People Clan for the Salt People Clan.

A family meeting will be tonight, April 15, at the Mariano Lake Chapter House at 5 p.m. Family will also receive friends and relatives every evening at 3 miles W. of Largo’s Corral, Rd.#386 B. in Mariano Lake.

Vivian Preston

CEDAR SPRINGS, Ariz. — Services for Vivian Bahe Preston, 95, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Chinle Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Preston died April 12, 2008. She was born Jan. 4, 1913, in Cedar Springs, Ariz.

Preston retired from Chinle Boarding School after 30 years working as an instructional aide.

Survivors include her sons, Perry T. Preston, Raven W. Preston Sr.; daughters, Thomasita P. Tsosie, Beverly P. Crawford; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Preston was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Preston; son, Cyrus T. Preston; daughters, June P. Benallie, Yvonne P. Williams.

Stanley Shea Jr.

GALLUP — Services are pending for Stanley Dewey Shea Jr., 82.

Shea died Sunday, April 13, 2008, in Gallup. He was born Sept. 29, 1925, in El Paso, Texas.

Roderick Snyder

MARIANO LAKE — Services are pending for Roderick J. Snyder, 37.

Snyder died Sunday, April 13, 2008, in Crownpoint. He was born Oct. 10, 1970, in Rehoboth, into the Start of the Red Streak People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan.

A family meeting will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at Mariano Lake Chapter House.

Ben Spean

QUERINO, Ariz. — Funeral services for Ben Spean, 71, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Good News Church, Ariz. Rexson Spean will officiate. Burial will be in Houck Community Cemetery.

Spean died April 12, 2008, in Gallup. He was born July 15, 1936, in Burntwater, Ariz., into the Black Streak People Clan for the Edge Water People Clan.

Spean attended school in Oklahoma for 5 years and California. He was employed with the railroad for 20 years and retired in 2002. His hobbies included traveling, entering in song and dances and he loved helping his families.

Survivors include his brother, John Spean; sisters, Maggie Ashley, Bah Yazzie-Ashley, Josephine John.

Spean was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lewis Spean; brothers, Sammy Spean, George Spean, Frank Spean, Willie Spean; sister, Mary Begay Spean.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Ashley, Roy Ashley, Johnny Brown, Emerson Begaye, Harvey Tom and Wayne Spean.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Houck Chapter house after services.
