Independent staff report

GALLUP — McKinley County offices will be open both Wednesday and Friday next week but with minimum staff.

Although Thursday — Christmas — is a county holiday, Wednesday and Friday are not, and County Manager Tom Trujillo said he has sent a memo to all county departments to make sure there are staff available on both days to keep the offices open.

That does not mean that county employees won’t be able to take annual leave if hey want to, he said. They can but department directors have to make sure that someone will be there in case county residents want to come in and take care of county business on those days.

This may mean, he said, that department directors will have to reject some requests for annual leave from employees to make sure that there will be personnel available.
