GALLUP — For sale: A whole bunch of radiology equipment. See University of New Mexico-Gallup officials if interested. Almost like new.

The local branch college has decided to put the equipment up for sale since officials have decided not to offer courses to train radiology technicians as was once planned.

UNM-G Director Barry Cooney said the decision was made after a study was done on available jobs for radiology technicians. “The study revealed that there was a statewide surplus of radiology technicians, so there was no need for us to have courses here,” he said.

Chuck Wright, CEO of the Rehoboth McKinley Christian Hospital, said Thursday in his last news conference before stepping down that he was disappointed in the decision since the hospital hoped to be able to tie into the program to get radiology technicians that are sorely needed here.

“They may have a surplus statewide in Albuquerque and Las Cruces but there is a need here,” he said.
