Nancy Booher

SMITH LAKE — Services for Nancy Joan Booher, 77, will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9, at First Baptist Church, Thoreau. The Rev. Glen Marshall will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot, Smith Lake.

Booher died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, in Gallup.

She was born July 17, 1931, in Canton, Ohio.

Booher loved children and worked as a teacher in a Christian school for 12 years. When her body began to crumble from the effects of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis, she continued her ministry of supporting those she loved in wise counseling. At an early age, she developed a love for Native Indian peoples and as a teenager, belonged to an Indian Club. She moved to New Mexico with her family to become missionaries to the Navajos. Booher and her husband started Mt. Powell Navajo Mission at Smith Lake. She was known as “mom” and “grandma” to nearly everyone in the area.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Franklin Booher of Thoreau; daughters, Sarah Montgomery of Deltona, Fla., Jenny Watkins of Placitas, N.M., Alice Benally of Farmington, Genevieve Lee of Smith Lake, Betsy Soltero of Thoreau; sons, Andrew Booher of Lower Brule, S.D., Billy Booher of Smith Lake, Billy Booher of Smith Lake, James Booher of Farmington, Paul Booher of Smith Lake, Wyatt Booher of Albuquerque; sister, Carol Brooks of Austin, Texas; 35 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Booher was preceded in death by her father, Ross Allen Weis; mother, Dorothy Urban Weis; son, Norman Booher.

Pallbearers will be Clarence Benally, Andy Booher, Billy Booher, James Booher, Paul Booher, Lansferd Lee.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Bruce Yazzie Jr.

CHICHILTAH — Funeral services for Bruce Yazzie Jr., 46, will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Rollie Mortuary, Gallup. Joe Lee will officiate. Burial will be in Chichiltah.

Yazzie died Dec. 1, 2008, in Gallup. He was born Aug. 31, 1962, in Zuni, into the Black Sheep People Clan for the Folded Arms People Clan.

Yazzie attended school at Chichiltah and Wingate Boarding School. He was a silversmith. He liked to draw, ride bikes, make other laugh, walk, spend time with family, meet new people, and sing gospel songs.

Survivors include his wife, Linda R. Yazzie of Red Rock; sons, Marc B. Yazzie, Manuel B. Yazzie, Mike B. Yazzie, Michael B. Yazzie, Matthew B. Yazzie, all of Red Rock; daughter, Michelle B. Yazzie of Red Rock; mother, Zonnie Yazzie of Chichiltah; brothers, Tom B. Yazzie, Kenneth B. Yazzie, Edison B. Yazzie, all of Chichiltah; sisters, Marie Touchin, Elouise B. Charley, both of Chichiltah.

Yazzie was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia B. Yazzie; brothers, Bennie Yazzie Sr., Perry B. Yazzie, Richard B. Yazzie; father, Bruce Yazzie Sr.

Pallbearers will be Manuel B. Yazzie, Michael B. Yazzie, Marc B. Yazzie, Mike B. Yazzie, Daryle B. Yazzie, Benson Nez.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Chichiltah Chapter House, following services.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
