GALLUP —Everyone enjoys having Thanksgiving off from work. But not everybody likes to cook those enormous turkeys and all the side dishes to feed the crowd of people coming over on that day. It is an enormous task for most heads of households, not to mention the cost of getting all the food “just right.” Butterball Turkey’s are about $1.12 a pound this year.

While most restaurants are closed on Thanksgiving so their employees can also get a break, there are a few local restaurants who stay open to serve people traveling on the highway, or single people who would never shove a 20-pound turkey into the oven.

Like turkey? Like dressing? The best bet, if nobody in the house is cooking on Thanksgiving day, is El Rancho, Cracker Barrel, Furrs, Denny’s, Country Pride Restaurant, Fire Rock Casino’s Cheîî Pub and Grill and Golden Corral.
The Church of the Holy Spirit is feeding the Care 66 residents a turkey dinner on Thanksgiving Day. They are picking the residents up, taking them up to the church on Country Club Drive and serving a turkey dinner. Calls to the Catholic Diocese and the United Methodist Church informed there were no events taking place.

Sammy C’s, Sizzler, Applebees, Earl’s, Chelles, Camilles, are all closed. Virgie’s is closed on Thursday, but Wednesday they are offering a turkey special for $7.25 until they run out of turkey.
