Bessie Begay
COTTONWOOD Funeral services for Bessie T. Begay, 55, will
be 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 20, at Black Mountain Mission, Black
Mountain, Ariz. The Rev. Daniel Smiley will officiate. Burial
will be in family plot, Cottonwood.
Begay died Nov. 15, 2008, in Cottonwood. She was born Jan. 5,
1953, in Fort Defiance.
Begay was a housewife, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren
and did sash belt weaving and banners for a school. She enjoyed
going to church and liked to sing. Begay liked to listen to the
radio and watch sports on TV.
Survivors include her husband, Calvin Begay Sr.; sons, Ervin
Begay Sr., Calvin Begay Jr., Keevin Begay, Sterling Begay; daughter,
Betsy Begay; brothers, Billy Gorman, Edward Tsosie; sisters, Veronica
Rica, Mary Rose Cornelius; ten grandchildren.
The family will receive relatives and friends at 6 p.m., Nov.
19, at Calvin Begay Sr. residence.
Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Joe Briggs
GALLUP Graveside services for Joe Dale Briggs, 75, will
be 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 20, at Sunset Memorial Park. Family
members will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Briggs died Nov. 14, 2008, in Gallup. He was born Feb. 2, 1933,
in Mt. Dora, N.M.
Briggs attended Gallup High School, and worked at Gallup Truck
Service. He was a Navy Veteran, member of VFW, and the Elks Club.
Briggs enjoyed hunting and telling stories with friends. He loved
woodwork and making beautiful gun stocks.
Survivors include his partner, Thelene Bell; sons, Joe Briggs
II; brothers, Wendell Edwin Briggs, Albert Leon Briggs; two grandchildren.
Briggs was preceded in death by his father, Albert Hursie Briggs;
mother, Rosetta Ellen Smith-Briggs; brother, Hayden Glyne.
Pallbearers will be Albert Adair, Stuart Bell, Gary Carson, Jack
Bell, Zack Cole, Lyle Adair.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Elks Lodge,
Gallup, following services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer
Research.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Robert Dennison
NASCHITTI Funeral services for Robert Joe Dennison, 57,
will be 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints Church, Sheep Springs. Branch President, Milton
Watts, will officiate. Burial will be in Naschitti Community Cemetery.
Dennison died Nov. 16, 2008, in Albuquerque. He was born July
17, 1951, in Lamar, Colo.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Naschitti Chapter
House, following services.

Sharon Duran
GREENVILLE, Ky. Services for Sharon J. Duran, 65, will
be 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 20, at Garys Funeral Home, Greenville.
The Rev. Gary McAbee will officiate. Graveside services will be
2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 20, at Sunset Cemetery, Winslow.
Visitation will be after 9 a.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
Duran died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, in Evansville. She was born
March 25, 1943, in Winslow, Ind.
Duran was the daughter of Oscar Taylor Baize and Juanita Elizabeth
Willis Baize. She attended First Baptist Church, Greenville. Duran
retired from Supervalue in 1998, after 20 years as a bookkeeper.
Survivors include her husband, Leo Duran of Greenville; daughter,
Kendra Leigh Duran of Greenville; son, Kevin Duran of Evansville;
sisters, Gail Groves of Evansville, Reva Baumgart of Martinsville,
Ind.; two grandchildren.
Duran was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Taylor Baize,
Jaunita Elizabeth Willis Baize; son, Mark Anthony Duran.
Pallbearers will be Tanner Duran, Mike Baize, Al Boamgart, Godfrey
Ramirez, Kyle Packett, Karem Sharada.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer
Society.
Bobby Jones
PREWITT Funeral services for Bobby Jones, 55, will be
10 a.m., Nov. 20, at Assembly of God Church, Prewitt. Burial will
be in Thoreau.
Jones was born July 24, 1953, in Crownpoint, into the Bitter
Water People Clan for the Apache People Clan (ChiiShii).
Jones worked at Steward Brothers Drilling and did silversmithing.
His hobbies include going outdoors and helping relatives.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Y. Jones; son, Bretrum Jones;
daughters, Christina Jones, Lucinda Yazzie; brothers, Kenneth
Jones Sr., Woody Jim Jr.; sisters, Linda James, Leann Nez, Grace
Kenneth; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Jones was preceded in death by his parents, parents, Betty Lou
Sandoval, Gahlo Patty Martinez; grandparents, Wilson Sandoval,
Nana Sandoval; one grandson.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Jones Sr., Woody Jim Jr., Kenneth
Jones Jr., Leland Lewis, Glen Chapo, Julius Billy.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Baca Chapter
House, following services.

Duane Leonard
LUKACHUKAI Funeral services are pending for Duane Martin
Leonard, 53.
Leonard died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, in Mexican Water, Ariz. He
was born Jan. 27, 1955, in Brigham City, Utah.
Desert View Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Carol Tom
HAYSTACK Funeral services for Carol Martinez Tom, 39,
will be 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 21, at the Prewitt Assembly of God.
Burial will be in Thoreau Cemetery.
Tom died Nov. 16, 2008, in Grants. She was born June 5, 1969,
in Gallup, into the Red Running Into the Water People Clan for
the Towering House People Clan.
Tom went to Thoreau High School. She enjoyed being with friends
and relatives, cooking out, and traveling. She was a homemaker
and enjoyed making kachina doll woodcarvings.
Survivors include her husband, Herman Tom Sr.; son, Herman Tom
Jr.; daughter, Raylene Martinez; mother, Mae Martinez; brothers,
Dan Joe Martinez, John Joe Martinez, Larry Vandever, Daniel Delgarito,
Emerson Delgarito, Gilbert Yazzie; sisters, Shirley Padilla, Ellen
Delgarito, Angie Martinez, Roselyn Etsitty Martinez, Elsie M.
James; four grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by Joe F. Martinez, Danny Delgarito,
Frankie Charley Jr.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Baca Chapter
House, Prewitt, following services.
