School Monday
GALLUP — Reminder to parents and guardians of GMCS students that THERE IS SCHOOL on Monday, Nov. 12. Miyamura High School in Gallup is the only school in the district the WILL NOT have school due to Professional Work Day for staff. Superintendent Search Community Meetings will take place Nov. 12 at Turpen Elementary, beginning at 6:30 p.m.


Flu Shot

GALLUP — Gallup Indian Medical Center continues to provide flu shots Monday through Friday 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. daily until further notice for IHS recipients. Flu clinic is located on the 1st floor on the north side where the Day Treatment room is located. Look for posted signs. The clinic is for children 9 years old through adult; children 8 and under will receive their flu shots in the pediatric clinic, Monday-Friday.


Fee-free Forest Day
ALBUQUERQUE — In honor of Veteran’s Day and those Americans who have served in the armed forces, the Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands announces a “Fee Free Day” on Sunday, Nov. 11. All fees on the Sandia Ranger District will be waived Nov. 11, along with all overnight camping fees. More information call Mark Chavez 505-346-3900.


Vet Ceremony
GALLUP — The public is invited to attend a Veterans’ Day ceremony recognizing local Persian Gulf veterans 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 at the Veterans’ Memorial in the Courthouse Square at Second Avenue and Aztec. Artist Jerry Brown’s soaring eagle mural will also be dedicated at this time. Questions call Tom Payton 879-6885.


Veteran’s Dinner
HOUCK — A veteran’s day dinner will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 at the Houck Community Chapter. Potluck style so please bring your favorite dish. All veterans are encouraged to attend and be recognized. Information: 928-688-2734.


Bingo
FORT DEFIANCE — A Veterans holiday weekend benefit fundraiser Bingo at Fort Defiance Chapter House, 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11. There will be Thanksgiving Turkey Prizes.


Gourd Dance
CROWNPOINT — A Veteran’s Day Gourd Dance will be 2 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Crownpoint Chapter House followed by a Supper Break at 5 p.m. and closing at 9 p.m. Donations for the gourd dance are acceptable. Committee will not be responsible for any accidents, theft or loss. This event is free. Drugs and Alcohol not allowed. Bring your own chairs. More information Johnnie Martin 505-786-2030.


Community Dinner
GALLUP — A community dinner will be 1 p.m. Nov. 11, service will be 11:30 a.m. at the Howard Chapel, A.M.E., 107 E. Wilson. Food and clothing give away. Information: 505-863-5690.


Veterans Events
HOGBACK — The Tse’ Dan Kaan (formerly Hogback) Community Navajo Veterans Organization will observe the “Veterans Day” on Monday, Nov. 12 starting at 7 a.m. with Flag raising ceremony and follow the commemoration to honor all the veterans in community. Meals with the veterans and Pow-Wow dancing to honor “Our Veterans” to follow. Information call Raymond Jim at 505-368-4620.


No School
WINDOW ROCK — There will be no school for Window Rock Unified School District students and staff on Monday, Nov. 12 in observance of the veterans day holiday.


Fee Free Day
EL MORRO — Entrance fees for all U.S. military veterans and current members of the U.S. armed forces and their families will be waived at El Morro National Monument on Sunday, Nov. 11. This is part of a nationwide, interagency event to recognize Veterans Day. Visitor center hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Veterans Dinner
MEXICAN SPRINGS — A Veterans Day Dinner for Mexican Springs community will be Nov. 11 at the Mexican Springs Chapter House from noon until food runs out. Feel free to bring in a picture of any veteran you know.
