Lawrence Marquez Sr.
GALLUP Funeral Mass for Lawrence Marquez Sr., 83 will be at
10 a.m. on Friday, March 3, at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Father Jerry will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park
in Gallup. Visitation will be held today, March 2 between noon and 5
p.m. at Rollie Mortuary Palm Chapel. A rosary will be recited on Friday,
March 3, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Marquez died on Feb. 28 in Gallup. He was born on August 10, 1922 in
Weaver, NM. Marquez was employed as a mine worker in Gamerco before
he joined the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Following
his discharge, he became a special police officer at the Fort Wingate
Army Depot, retiring in 1981, following 27 years of service. He was
active in the Boy Scouts, Knights of Columbus and worked at Calmar Inc.
for many years. His hobbies included trout fishing, watching TV, spending
time with family, music and playing the guitar.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth R. Marquez of Gallup; sons, Lawrence
D. Marquez Jr. of Rio Rancho, NM and Robert A. Marquez of Del Rio, Texas;
daughter, Cynthia Marquez-Vargas of Gallup; six grandchildren.
Marquez was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Frances Marquz;
sister, Frances Espinosa; brothers, Jerry Marquez, Modesto Marquez and
Tony Marquez.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Knights of Columbus
Hall following burial services.

George Joines
JAMESTOWN, NM Memorial service for George E. Joines, 75 will
be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, at the Rollie Mortuary Palm Chapel.
Family will officiate.
Joines died on Feb. 27 in Jamestown. He was born on August 22, 1930
in Falston, Md. He served in the Korean War and was sent to Washington,
DC and served as honor guard for President Truman. Later he transferred
to an Air Force Base.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Joines of Jamestown; son, Bill Joines
of Gallup; daughters, Georgia "Dutchie" Nelson of Bloomfield
and Toni Wright of Las Lunas; stepson, Butch Bunch of Gallup; stepdaughters,
Debbie Ray and Julie Salas, both of Farmington; and sister, Catherine
Billovitz of Alexandria, Va.
Joines was preceded in death by his parents, William Woodrow Joines
and Myrtle Joines; brother, Bill Joines.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Lion's Hall in
Gallup following services.
Donations may be made to an account that has been set up for Mildred
Joines at Pinnacle Bank in Gallup.

Beverlianna Hale
SHEEPRINGS, NM Funeral services for Beverlianna Hale, 38 will
be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, at the First United Methodist Church
in Gallup. Rev. Laloni Drake will officiate. Burial will be on private
land in Sheep Springs, NM. Visitation will be on Friday, March 3, between
3 and 5 p.m. at Rollie Mortuary.
Hale died on Feb. 24 in Gallup. She was born on May 10, 1967 in Denver,
Colo., into the Mountain Cove People Clan for the One Who Walks Around
Clan. Hale graduated from Thoreau High School and went on to UNM. She
worked for the Indian Health Services in the Medical Records Department
at the Tsalie Health Center and also at the Gallup Indian Medical Center.
She enjoyed bowling, basketball, horseback riding and spending time
with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Terrance Hale of Sheep Springs; parents,
Harry Aaron Smith of Twin Lakes and Barbara Ann Smith of Gallup; daughter,
Euronika Descheny of Sheep Springs; son, Shane Wyatt Hale of Sheep Springs;
brothers, Harold Smith of Gallup and Hubert Smith of Mexican Springs;
and Elizabeth Smith of Mexican Springs.
Hale was preceded in death by her grandparents, Alexander and Betty
Smith and Doc and Sarah Succo.
Pallbearers will be Ernest Smith, Harrison Smith, Henry Smith, Horace
Smith, Joe Smith and Lambert Smith.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Sheepsprings Chapter
House following the burial service.

Frances L. Malone
THOREAU Memorial service for Frances L. Malone, 81 will be at
10 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, at the Thoreau Baptist Church.
Malone died on Feb. 28 in Thoreau. She was born on December 25, 1924
in Wadesboro, NC.
Survivors include her sons, Phillip Malone of San Francisco, CA, and
Richard Malone of Gallup.
Malone was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Malone; father,
Harvey Hamilton Leavitt; mother, Mary Francis Moore.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospice of RMCH.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arranagements.
Joe Moreno
GALLUP Graveside services for Joe A. Moreno, 86 will be at 2
p.m., March 4, at Sunset Memorial Park.
Moreno died on Feb. 17 in Albuquerque. He had served his country during
WWII, in Africa and Italy. He received a head injury due to shrapnel
and received a purple heart. He worked at Fort Wingate as an ammunitions
inspector and retired after 24 years of service. He was very active
in the Senior Center and enjoyed many different types of arts and crafts.
Survivors included are his wife, Helen Moreno; daughter, Philomena Allen;
brother, Pete Moreno; sister, Lupe Garcia; two grandchildren, all of
Albuquerque.
Moreno was preceded in death by his parents, Marciano and Josefa Moreno;
seven children.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be

William Brown
LUPTON Funeral services are pending for William Brown, 50
Brown died on Feb. 27. He was born on October 16, 1955.
The family will meet tonight at the Lupton Chapter House at 6 p.m.
