Pursuit and Capture: McKinley County Sheriff Sgt. Martinez collects
evidence from a Jeep that was involved in a pursuit Tuesday night. McKinley
County deputies and Gallup Police officers deployed spike strips in front
of Big Bear Bargains on North Ninth Street, flattening the vehicle's tires.
Officers chased the Jeep south on Second Street to the railroad crossing
before the unidentified driver surrendered. Deputies said they suspected
the driver was drunk and on drugs. No one was injured in the incident.

Jamal Jawad addresses the Gallup City Council Tuesday night to express
the Muslim community's concern about cartoons recently published in The
Independent. Danish papers first published the cartoons, which many Muslims
say mocks their religion. Their subsequent publication in several European
newspapers set off a wave of protests across the globe and led to the
deaths of dozens of people. [Photo by John A. Bowersmith/Independent]
