Henry Hands

GRANTS — Funeral mass services for Henry Manoplas Hands, 66 will be held on Friday, February 3 at 1 p.m. at the Saint Teresa de Avila Catholic Church. Visitation and meditation was held on Thursday, February 2. Father Alberto Avella will officiate. Intermet and graveside services will follow at the Grants Memorial Park.

Hands died on February 1 at his home in Grants. He was born on July 16, 1939 in Pojoaque, New Mexico. He was a long time resident of the area. He was raised in Pecos and also attended high school there. Hands moved to Grants where he worked as a carpenter for several years. He was in the US Army from January 1962 to January 1964. He also worked for Kerr-McGee Corporation in the Uranium mines as an underground miner for the Chevron Corporation. He later moved to Globe, Arizona to work in the copper mines for the Magma Corporation. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing. He was a faithful member of the Saint Teresa de Avila Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife Raymie Pohl Hands; sons, Andrew Hands of Austin, Texas, Leo Hands of Albuquerque, Adrian Hands of Grants, and Stephen Hands of San Rafael; daughter, Henrietta Romero of San Rafael; sister, Delfina Ley of Pecos, NM; brother, Joe Hands of Tacoma, Washington; and 12 grandchildren.

Hands was proceded in death by his parents George Henry Hands and Cirila Lujan Hands; brothers, George, James, Eusebio Cajetano Hands; sisters, Carmen Montano and Adela Catanach.

Pallbearers will be Gilbert Catanach, Richard Ley, Lee Hands, Edward Joseph Quintana, Daniel Molina and Alfred Pohl.

Grants Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Mary L. Skeets

VANDERWAGEN — Funeral services for Mary L. Skeets, 90 will be at the Pine Tree Mission on Saturday, February 4 at 10 a.m. Evangelist Eugene Cody, Sr. will officiate. Burial will be at the PineTree Mission Cemetary.

Skeets died on January 27 in Gallup. She was born on July 1, 1915 in Two Wells, New Mexico for the Red Botton People Clan.

Survivors include her sons Frank M. Lee of Albuquerque and Joe M. Lee of Vanderwagen; daughter, Mary Alice Lucas of Chicago, Illinois; brother, John Nelson of Breadsprings; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Skeets was proceded in death by her husband Money Skeets.

Pallbearers will be Mike Chee, Mark Eddy, Darrin Joe, Leslie Lee, Johnathan Natan, Roy Nelson, Benjamin Skeet, and Chee Smith.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
