John Torres
GALLUP - Services for John C. Torres, 75, will be at 1 p.m., Thursday,
Aug. 10 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Gallup. The Very Rev. Lawrence
J. O'Keefe will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
There will be a rosary at Rollie Mortuary at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug.
9 at Rollie Mortuary.
Torres died Aug. 4 in Phoenix. He was born Oct. 9, 1930 in Gallup.
Torres worked as a Gallup Police officer before opening his own business,
the City Taxi Co. and the City Laundromat which he ran until he retired.
His hobbies included listening to music and playing his guitar.
Survivors include his wife Macaria Torres of Gallup; daughters Eileen
Montoya, Cynthia Torres, both of Gallup, Charlotte Corral of Colo.;
and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Torres and Flora Torres;
and one brother, Dordio Torres.
Pallbearers will be Nick Bubany Jr., Juan Montoya, Scott Montoya, Elias
Sanchez, Frank Sanchez and Paul Torres.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Levi Damon
FORT DEFIANCE Services for Levi Damon, 65, will be at 10 a.m.,
Wednesday, Aug. 9 at the Assembly of God, Fort Defiance. Pastor Armond
Martinez will officiate. Burial will follow in Asyi.
Damon died Aug. 3 in Asyi. He was born Aug. 22, 1940 in Fort Defiance
into the House of the Dark Cliffs Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.
He graduated from Window Rock High School in 1960 and joined the U.S.
Army. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Saigon, Quinhon and Pleiku,
Vietnam. He worked for the Navajo Tribe in Window Rock, BIA in Fort
Defiance, a power plant in Farmington, Ganado Construction Co., and
at the time of his death with Pittsburgh & Midway Coal Co. He was
a member of UMWA and was a rancher and farmer.
Survivors include his wife Nellie Damon; sons, D. Bryan Damon, Levi
Damon Jr.; daughters Pamela Owens, Karen Damon, Leigh Ann Damon; stepdaughter
Jacklyn Cordell; mother Florence Damon from Asyi/Beaah K'e ha teet;
sisters, Phyllis Damon from Sawmill, Ariz., Louise D. Hubbell from Farmington,
Sarah V. Morgan from Gallup, Mary Arvison-Damon from St. Michaels, Ariz,
Teresa A. Wilson from Gallup; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Edward Damon; brothers, David,
Andrew, Benjamin Sr., Edison Damon and one granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Damon, Levi Damon Jr., Lance Damon, Emery
Boyd, Benjamin Damon Jr., and Shreve Damon.
Michael Zuni
PHOENIX Services for Michael Albert Zunie, 20, will be announced
at a later date.
Zunie died Aug. 6 in Phoenix. He was born June 15 in Phoenix into the
Mexican Clan for the Two Who Came to the Water People Clan.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Christine Etsitty
CROWNPOINT Services for Christine Etsitty, 87, will be announced
at a later date.
Etsitty died Aug. 6 in Crownpoint. She was born Aug. 28, 1918 in Becenti,
N.M.
