Geroge Shackelford

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — A Mass of Christian Burial for George David Shackelford, 65, Burial will be Friday, April 21, at noon at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 800 N. Taylor Dr., Sierra Vista, Ariz., with Father Gregory Adolf officiating. Interment will follow at Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1300 Buffalo Soldier Trial, Sierra Vista, Ariz., with military honors.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hatfield Funeral Home, 830 S. Hwy 92, Sierra Vista, Ariz., with a rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m.

George David Shackelford, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2006 at his home. He was born January 27, 1941 in Strawberry Plains, Tenn., to Beecher Carl and Mary Elizabeth Shackelford.

He served in the Marine Corp and the U.S. Army. During his time in the military, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam, received two Purple Heart Medals and one Bronze Star with combat V. He was also a drill instructor in Paris Island, South Carolina. He enjoyed traveling the country, wood-working, collecting rocks and fossils. George also loved telling stories.

Suvivors include his wife, Pauline Shackelford; children: Beecher Shackelford, Jess Shackelford and Tyra Schmidt; brothers: Earl Shackelford, Robert Shackelford, Charles Shackelford and Carl Shackelford, Jr.; grandchildren: Madison Schmidt, John Schmidt, Presley Shackelford and Richard Shackelford.


Joan Geisel

GALLUP — Funeral services are pending for Joan J. Geisel, 92. Geisel died April 18 in Gallup. She was born Oct. 6, 1913 in Massachusetts.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
