Rita Smiley

COYOTE CANYON — Funeral services for Rita Jane Smiley, 68, will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12 at Assembly of God Church, Crownpoint. Burial will be in Crownpoint.

Smiley died April 7 in Gallup. She was born June 4, 1938 in Coyote Canyon into the Meadow People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.

Smiley was a retired Tohatchi bus driver and homemaker. She enjoyed sewing and making traditional food.

Survivors include sons Christopher Smiley of Coyote Canyon, Loren John; daughters Verida Smiley of Coyote Canyon, Lolita Smiley of Pinon, Ariz., Leona Yazzie of Lybrook, N.M.; brothers Lloyd John of Nose Rock, Albert John of Twin Lakes; sisters Ramona Cowboy, Francis Tom both of Coyote Canyon; and 14 grandchildren.

Smiley was preceded in death by husband Joe Smiley; parents Frank and Eva John; brother Joe John; sisters Edith Yazzie and Hilda Harvey.

Pallbearers will be Angelo and Lee Rankin, George Begay, Loren John, Augustine Benally and Bry Smiley.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Assembly of God in Crownpoint.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.


Correction

In Tuesday's obituary for Mary Moore, her daughters are Marilyn Chischilly of Oak Springs, Irene P. Moore of Chambers, Sarah Pino of Ramah, Clara Woody of Twin Lakes and Elsie Lee. Moore also has a sister Agnes Lee and one of the pallbearer's last name was omitted and that was Anderson Lee. Services are Thursday, April 13 at 10 a./m.
