Pursuit & Capture: New Mexico State and Grants Police officers were involved in a high-speed pursuit that started just before 2 p.m. Saturday in Grants. Andrew Gurule led police west through Grants and Milan on I-40 to the 77 mile marker where he made a U-turn and sped back east. At the 79 mile marke,r Gurule swerved the stolen 1996 Chevy pickup he was driving into the front of a NMSP car and was then hit by a Grants Police car to end the pursuit. Gurule sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to the Grants hospital where he was treated and released to the Cibola County Detention Center. Gurule is being held on charges of possesion of a stolen vehicle, forgery, possession of methamphetamine and marijuana and failure to appear. The crash forced the closure of east-bound lanes of I-40 from about 2:30-7:30 p.m. resulting in a traffic backup of more that five miles. [Photo by John A. Bowersmith/Independent]

The Horse Crazy Kids riding school and stables were offering pony rides for $1 near Kearn's Park. Horse Crazy Kids is trying to assemble a women's horse drill team for competitions.
