Stephanie J. Ahasteen
GALLUP Funeral services for Stephanie Jean Ahasteen, 20, will
be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Rehoboth Christian Reformed
Church. Pastor Roger Scarbro will officiate. Burial will follow in the
Rehoboth Mission Cemetery.
Visitation will be today, Oct. 21 at Rollie Mortuary Palm Chapel from
12 noon to 6 p.m.
Ahasteen died Oct. 18 in Gallup. She was born May 8, 1985 in Gallup
into the Mexican People Clan for the Over Hanging Rock People Clan.
Ahasteen was a graduate of Bloomfield High School and was currently
attending UNM-Gallup.
Survivors include her father, Steven Ahasteen of Bloomfield; mother,
Pamela Atkins of Gallup; brothers, Aaron Ahasteen of Albuquerque, Christian
Ahasteen of Bloomfield, Jamal Atkins, Jared Atkins both of Gallup; step-brother,
Jeffery Begaye of Bloomfield; step-sisters, Candice Augustine, Jacqueline
Begaye both of Bloomfield; grandfathers, Robert Atkins, John Roanhorse,
Jr. both of Mexican Springs; grandmothers, Mary Jane Buckshot of Cleveland,
Ohio, Esther Roanhorse of Mexican Springs; and Elrick Begaye of Gallup.
Ahasteen was preceded in death by her step-brother, Walter Begaye, Jr.
and grandfather, Jimmie G. Ahasteen.
Pallbearers will be Jamal Atkins, Matthew Begay, Elrick Begaye, Jeffery
Begaye, Eddie Buckshot and Jerry Buckshot.
A potluck reception will be held at the Rehoboth Fellowship Hall following
services.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Alfred Nez
RABBIT BRUSH Funeral services for Alfred Nez, 78, will be at
1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the United Methodist Church, Window Rock.
Pastor Roger Tsosie and Pastor Kenneth Cleveland will officiate. Burial
will follow in Rabbit Brush.
Visitation will be today, Oct. 21 from 4-6 p.m. at Silver Creek Mortuary.
Nez died Oct. 18 in Gallup. He was born April 6, 1927 in Fort Defiance.
Nez worked for the railroad, was a carpenter with the Navajo Nation
and retired in 1994 following 22 years of service. Nez enjoyed being
with his grandchildren and watching T.V.
Survivors include his son, Eddie Watson of Fort Defiance; daughters,
Betty Jean Johnson of Kayenta, Eleanor Nez, Maggie King both of Fort
Defiance; brother, Leonard Nez of Sawmill; sister, Clara Bushyhead of
Okla.; 21 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Nez was preceded in death by his daughters, Caroline Nez, Peggy Nez;
sister, Marie Yellowhair.
Pallbearers will be Alfred Goodman, Steven Goodman, Jr., Tommy Nez,
Leon Watson, Symore Yazzie, Micha Yazzie, Leonard Begay and Cheyenn
Yazzie.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the United Methodist
Church.
Jose F. Barreras
ACOMITA Funeral Mass for Jose Francisco Barreras, 69, were at
10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20 at St. Teresa de Avila Catholic Church.
Father Matthew Kugler officiated. Burial with full military honors was
at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Shelter of Santa Fe National Cemetery
with Deacon Juan Martinez officiated.
Barreras died Oct. 18 in Acomita. He was born Sept. 15, 1936 in Santa
Rosa.
Barreras was an active member of the Saint Anne's Catholic Church in
Acomita and served on the Parish Board, was a CCD teacher and a Cursillo
member.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Barreras of Acomita; son, Aaron Thomas
Barreras of Acomita; sisters, Merlinda Cortez of Phoenix, Ariz., Trini
Vallejos of San Bernadino, Calif., Maria C. de Baca of Sacramento, Calif.
Barreras was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Francisco Barreras,
Sophia Trujillo Barreras and one brother, Marten Barreras.
Pallbearers were family and friends.
