Sue Lewis
GALLUP Funeral services for Katharine Suzette Lewis, 48, will
be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints, Gallup. Bishop Mike Jones will officiate. Burial
will follow at the Ramah community cemetery.
Lewis died Oct. 9 in Albuquerque. She was born Aug. 27, 1957 in El Paso,
Texas.
Lewis was a home economics teacher at Gallup Jr. High. She was the FCCLA
club advisor and had several awards. Lewis was a volunteer leader with
the young women of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints church
group. She enjoyed her students and family, gardening, cooking, and
camping. She lived with a motto, "Okay, I can do this!" Survivors
include her husband, Randell Lewis; daughters, Amanda J. Lewis and Maren
C. Lewis all of Gallup.
Lewis was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Glen Johnson and mother,
Mildred Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Milton Black, Ken Johnson, Mark Johnson, Sam Johnson,
Von Johnson and Edward Small.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Elmer Benally
SANOSTEE Funeral services for Elmer Benally, 51, will be at
10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13 at the Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home
Chapel, Shiprock. Pastor Jerry Bodie will officiate. Burial will follow
in the Shiprock community cemetery, Veteran's section.
Benally was born March 14, 1954 in Shiprock.
Survivors include his grandmother, Hattie Benally; father, George Benally;
sons, Marques T. Benally, Shelton Washburn; daughters, Lorincea L. Benally,
Karen Benally, Carol Washburn, Carissa Benally, Krissy Benally, Marcy
Benally all of Sanostee; sisters, Pauline Moses, Suzie Benally, Sarah
Benally; brothers, Charlie Benally, Larry Benally, Michael Benally all
of Sanostee.
Benally was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Chase; and grandfather,
Tom Benally.
Pallbearers will be Bradford Moses, Julian Moses, Gregory Moses, Marques
T. Benally, Darryl Mike and Michael Benally.
Mary L. Ben
LOW MOUNTAIN Funeral services for Mary Lucy Ben, 78, were at
10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at the New Life Church, Low Mountain.
Pastor Elmer Jimmy officiated. Burial was a family plot in Low Mountain.
Ben died Oct. 9 in Chinle. She was born July 12, 1927 in Low Mountain
into the Towering House People Clan for the Deer Springs People Clan.
Survivors include her husband, Willie Ben, Sr.; sons, Leslie Ben, Ambrose
Ben, Lester Ben, Wesley Ben, Willie Ben, Jr., Steven Ben; daughters,
Alice Zah, Lucy B. Slim; sisters, Louise B. Tsosie, and Janice Begay.
Pallbearers were family members.
Tse Bonito Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Leonard Sandman
SHEEPSRPINGS Funeral services for Leonard Henry Sandman, 73,
will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13 at the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter Day Saints, Sheepsprings. First Counselor Ned Harris will
officiate. Burial will follow in the Sheepsprings community cemetery.
Visitation will be today, Oct. 12 from 3-4 p.m. at Brewer, Lee and Larkin
Funeral Home.
Sandman was born June 6, 1932 into the Red House People Clan for the
Red Cheek People Clan.
Sandman served as the Sheepsprings Chapter President, secretary, member
of the DNA People Legal Services, Northern Navajo Medical Center Health
Board, Sheepsprings Farm Board, Veteran's Association and the Shiprock
VFW Post #9517. He was instrumental in developing the Sheepsprings Senior
Citizens Center and Sheepsprings Tourism Center. Sandman was recognized
by the Navajo Nation Council for 50 years of community service and was
a combat veteran of the Korean War. He earned the National Defense Service
Medal, United Nation Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Rifle and
Machine Gun badge, and was corporal in the US Marine Corp.
Survivors include his son, Lorenzo H. Sandman of Santa Fe, Tommy L.
Sandman of Sheepsprings; daughters, LaVay Sandman Talk of Provo, Utah,
LaVene LaPlant of Chicago, Ill., LaJusta Sam of Provo, Utah, Lahoma
S. Hollingsworth of American Fork, Utah, Loretta M. Cabana of Lehi,
Utah, Linda M. Hatridge of Provo Utah; sisters, Pauline S. Chee, Roselyn
Johnson, Katherine S. Morris, Elizabeth Sandman; brothers, Frank H.
Sandman, Glen Sandman, Walter Sandman.
Sandman was preceded in death by his parents, Frank H. and Anita D.
Sandman; wife, Louise Slim Sandman; sisters, Rosemary, Bertha, Pearl,
Juanita; daughter, Linda Lou Sandman; and 2 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Morris, Brad Roy Talk, Aaron Henry LaPlant,
Kai Alex Sandman, Ricardo Lee Sandman, Harrison Johnson, Jr., Alex James
and David Morales.
Randolph Yazzie
GREASEWOOD SPRINGS Funeral services for Randolph Cyril Yazzie,
49, were at 10 a.m. today, Oct. 12 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church,
Greasewood Springs. Paul O'Brien officiated. Burial followed in the
Greasewood Springs community cemetery.
Yazzie died Oct. 6 in Greaswood Springs. He was born June 11, 1956 in
Keams Canyon into the Mexican People Clan for the Towering House People
Clan.
Yazzie attended school in Greaswood Springs, and Fort Wingate. He worked
as a carpenter and enjoyed ranching, and helping the community.
Survivors include his brother, Michael Yazzie of Indian Wells; sister,
Imogene Harvey of Sells, Ariz.
Yazzie was preceded in death by his parents, John Yazzie Sr. and Majel
Yazzie; brother, Johnson Yazzie, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Jaspert Yazzie, Matthew Wayne, Bobbie Cepi, Jr.,
Gilbert Charleston, Romero Yazzie and Ferdinand Stewart.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Greaswood Springs
Chapter House.
