HOGBACK Federal authorities continued the search
Tuesday for a 26-year-old Shiprock man wanted in the execution-style shooting
of three people on the Navajo Nation.
The FBI issued an all-points bulletin throughout the Four Corners area
for Michael Johnson, one of four suspects in the Nov. 7 slaying of Bobby
Wayne Fulton, 22; Lars Yazzie, 18; and Vicki Benally, 26, near the Hogback
Chapter House just east of Shiprock.
The early morning shootings left area residents on edge, and many say
they won't sleep well until Johnson is in custody.
FBI Special Agent Bill Elwell said Tuesday Johnson may be with his girlfriend
Nashena Johnson and their 2-year-old daughter. The woman and the child
haven't been seen in the area and have not kept their daily appointments.
Elwell said investigators believe all three may be headed to either the
Phoenix or Tucson areas.
Nashena Johnson drives a black 1999 Pontiac Grand Am with the license
plate UNM 5428. Michael Johnson may be driving a white 1967 Chevy Malibu
with New Mexico license plate 852 DHH.
Authorities said Michael Johnson is still considered armed and extremely
dangerous.
Police arrested Darcy Manus, 22, of Shiprock, and Chuck Nahkai, 29, of
Beclabito, at their homes Saturday. Eugina Cowboy, 22, of Shiprock, was
arrested earlier this week.
They along with Michael Johnson have been charged with first-degree murder,
firing a weapon to further a violent crime, aiding and abetting the commission
of offense against the U.S. and distributing a controlled substance on
the Navajo Nation.
Cowboy is accused of luring Fulton and his companions to a place near
the chapter house where Johnson, Nahkai and Manus were hiding in the bushes
along the roadside, according to court records.
She also is accused of giving Fulton methamphetamine on the Navajo Nation,
the records said.
Residents reported hearing gunshots and police responded to find the bodies
of Fulton, Yazzie and Benally in and near a bullet-ridden car.
