Neva Summer
GRANTS Memorial services for Neva A. Summer, 88, will be at
10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1 at Grants Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Lonnie
Jordan will officiate. Cremation has taken place.
Summer died May 25 in Grants. She was born June 3, 1916 in Hayden, Colo.
Summer moved to the area in 1943 from Colorado and became a resident
of Los Cerritos Ranch. Summer worked in Los Cerritos Trading Post and
General Store. In 1997 she moved to Grants.
Summer was preceded in death by her parents, Henry J. Summer and Mattie
Elmer Summer; sister, Marie S. Bibo; brothers, Herbert Summer, Gilbert
Summer.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Central Baptist Church,
701 E. Sage Ave., Grants, N.M., 87020.
Br. Donald Gonzales
ST. MICHAELS Funeral Mass for Brother Donald Gonzales, O.F.M.,
69, will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 31 at 11 a.m. at the St. Michaels
School Chapel. The Rev. Donald E. Pelotte, SSS, Ph.D. Bishop of Gallup
will officiate. Burial will follow at the Friars plot in St. Michaels.
The reception of the body and a wake service will take place at St.
Michaels Mission Church on Monday, May 31 beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Brother Gonzales died on May 25. He was born Arthur Clement Gonzales,
July 19, 1935 in Blanco, N.M.
Brother Gonzales professed his first vows in August 16, 1955 in Cincinnati,
Ohio at St. Anthony Shrine. He made his final vows at St. Michaels,
Arizona on August 16, 1958. He spent his entire ministerial life in
the Franciscan missions of the Southwest, serving in Tuba City, St.
Michaels, and Gallup. He was a member of the Franciscan Brothers Work
Crew which was responsible for building the parish church in Shiprock
and various halls and gymnasiums around the Navajo reservation. Brother
Gonzales was a counselor, whose work included referrals and follow up
with those who suffered from alcohol addictions.
Survivors include his brothers, Candido Gonzales, Martin Gonzales; sisters,
Lucy Gonzales, Rebecca Gomez and Ramoncita Sanchez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sr. and Jacobita Gonzales;
brother, Frank Gonzales Jr. and sister, Celia Mascareneas.
Franciscan Friars will serve as his pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Michaels
Indian Mission School.

Archie Martinez
IYANBITO Funeral services for Archie Larry Martinez, 50, will
be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31 at Cope Memorial Chapel. Mark Thomas
will officiate. Burial will follow in the Gallup City Cemetery.
Martinez died May 24 in Iyanbito. He was born May 4, 1955 in Iyanbito
into the Towering House People Clan for the Sleep Rock People Clan.
Martinez attended Wingate elementary and high schools. He was a silversmith
and enjoyed making jewelry, and playing softball.
Survivors include his son, Michael Martinez of Iyanbito; daughters,
Shannon Martinez, Shannon Begay both of Gallup; mother, Bessie K. Martinez
of Iyanbito; brothers, Kenneth Martinez, Albert Martinez, Donald Martinez
all of Iyanbito; Rudy Martinez of Gallup, Frankie Martinez of Canoncito;
sisters, Mildred Frank, Patsy Martinez, Nancy Martinez, Tonita Martinez,
Tonya Martinez, all of Iyanbito and 10 grandchildren.
Martinez was preceded in death by his wife, Rosie Y. Martinez and father,
Don Martinez.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Iyanbito Chapter
House.
Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Ray Saunders
COUSINS, N.M. Services for Ray Saunders, 86, will be at 1 p.m.,
Tuesday, May 31 at Rollie Mortuary Palm Chapel.
Saunders died May 26 in Cousins. He was born April 15, 1919 in San Antone
Springs, N.M. into the Two Who Came to the Water People Clan for the
Sleeping Rock People Clan.
Survivors include his wife, Glassie Saunders of Gallup; sons, Raymond
Saunders of Zuni and Rudy Saunders of Thoreau; daughter, Susie Saunders
of Cousins; sisters, Evelyn Bruce of San Antone Springs, Grace Hill
of Smith Lake and Mary Saunders of San Antone Springs, and six grandchildren.
Saunders was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Saunders and Tah
Hah Bah Saunders; son, Rodney Saunders; sister, Alice Saunders and one
brother, Joe Saunders.
Pallbearers will be Benson Joe, Patrick Joe, Dewayne G. Murphey, Rodney
Roy Pino, Shawn Platero, Johnson Sandoval.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Patrick Louis
GALLUP Services for Patrick "Uncle Pat" Louis, 40,
will be announced at a later date. Louis died May 27 in Gallup. He was
born Sept. 17, 1964 in Woodland, Calif., into the Bitter Water People
Clan for the Waters Edge People clan.
