Milan Police to sponsor Easter egg hunt Saturday

By Tom Purdom
Staff Writer

MILAN — To give the residents of Milan a chance to get to know the Milan Police Department face-to-face, the department is holding an Easter egg hunt Saturday.

Acting Police Chief Jerry Stephens said the time will allow the adults time to get to know the 13 members of the department, and at the same time, let their children have some wholesome family fun.

The egg hunt will begin at 11 a.m. at Kearns Field, which is located off New Mexico 605 just off Stanley Street. "There will also be other village employees there for the people to meet too," Stephens said.

Stephens said the hunt will be done using different age groups.

The day will not just be an Easter egg hunt. Stephens said there will be booths put up at the event. In addition, a relay race will be held as well as a three-legged race. "We want this to be a family event," Stephens said. "At the same time, we have some new officers and new staff at the department to introduce."

Stephens said most of the time people call the department and talk to a voice on the other end of the telephone line. "This will give people a chance to meet the ones they have been talking to face-to-face," Stephens said.

While the event is primarily for the people of Milan, Stephens said the police officers and staff certainly like the idea. "Everybody here is excited about doing this," Stephens said. "Most of the staff here have children and they are excited about it."
