GALLUP — Gallup Civil Air Patrol member, Michael Fernandez recently obtained the prestigious Mitchell Award. This award is the second of four major milestones achievable through Civil Air Patrol.

Fernandez, a junior at Gallup High, has his sites set on the Air Force Academy. He would also like to achieve the rank of colonel before leaving Gallup CAP.

Michael's interest in Civil Air Patrol came while living in North Carolina. He read an article about a squadron in Alaska who was called out on a search and rescue mission. They were able to save a pilot's life during the mission.

Michael says his goals for his Gallup Raptor Squadron include increasing membership of high school students.
