GALLUP Services for Wilbert A. Sloan, 66, will be at 10 a.m.
on Friday, Jan. 21 at Rollie Mortuary Palm Chapel. Pastor Harry House
will officiate. Burial will follow in the Smith Lake Community.
Sloan died Jan. 16 in Albuquerque. He was born April 7, 1938 in Borrego
Pass into the Hairy People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.
Sloan graduated from Wingate High School and was active in the National
Guard. Sloan was employed with the BIA for over 30 years at Chuska Boarding
School and Wingate Elementary from which he retired in 1996. He was
also a security officer in Farmington, an EMT at the Shiprock Hospital
and a Navajo Police Officer. Sloan enjoyed sandpainting, beadwork, leathercraft,
art work and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Ella R. Sloan of Gallup; stepsons, Ferlin
Hoskie, Harvey Hoskie, both of Gallup; sisters, Jeannie Preston of Crownpoint,
Evelyn Rico of Ojo Encino; brothers, Benjamin Sloan, Curtis Sloan, both
of Crownpoint, Jameson Sloan of Twin Lakes, Matthew Sloan of Littlewater,
Michael Sloan of Smith Lake, Raymond Sloan of Sanders and two grandchildren.
Sloan was preceded in death by his father, Milton B. Sloan; mother,
Ah Kenne Bah Begay-Sloan; sister, Margaret Carlston and brother, Amos
K. Sloan, Sr.
Pallbearers will be Shane Morgan, Benjamin Sloan, Edison Sloan, Martin
Sloan, Raymond Sloan and Earl Yazzie.
A reception will be held at the St. Paul Catholic Hall in Crownpoint
following services.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Samuel Vigil
SAN JOSE, Calif. Samuel "Sam" Vigil, 87, died Jan.
5 in San Jose, Calif. He was born Feb. 17, 1917 in Kelly, N.M.
Vigil retired from Operating Engineers Local #3 in San Jose. He enjoyed
deep sea fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Vigil; children, Aurelia Guiterrez,
Paula Ross, Patricia Hart of Calif., Shirley Rademacher of Ore., Carla
Nagle of Calif., Mike Martin; brothers, David Vigil, Billy Silva, both
of Gallup, Richard Vigil of Belen; sisters, Mary Gomez of Gallup, Kate
Mestas of Meadow Lakes; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Vigil was preceded in death by his parents, Flavio and Dominica Vigil;
wife, Monica Vigil; son, Sammy Boy Vigil; brothers, Juan Vigil, Eloise
Vigil; sisters, Erinea Silva, Pablita Vigil and Dorothy Vigil.
Cremated remains have been scattered at sea near his favorite fishing
spot.
Raymond McDonald
BLACK HAT Funeral services for Raymond McDonald, 64, will be
at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 21 at Cope Memorial Chapel. Evangelist Andrew
Pinto will officiate. Burial will follow in the Gallup City cemetery.
McDonald died Jan. 15 in Albuquerque. He was born April 5, 1941 in Wildcat
Springs into the Towering House People Clan for the Mexican People Clan.
McDonald attended Twin Lakes Day School, Allen Road Elementary and high
school in Brigham City, Utah. He retired as an iron worker and welder
in Chicago. McDonald enjoyed traveling and woodworking.
Survivors include his daughters, Winona M. Slim of Gallup, Ramona McDonald
of Nekoosa, Wis.; sisters, Marie Smith of Tseyatoh, Eva Charley of Rock
Springs; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
McDonald was preceded in death by his wife, Mary McDonald; father, Mack
McDonald; mother, Ella McDonald; brother, Bennie McDonald; sisters,
Nellie McDonald and Rita Westley.
Pallbearers will be Adam Castillo, Shawn Smith, Daniel Smith, Jerome
McCray, Andrew Pinto, Jr. and Virgil Pinto.
Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Rosa Anderson
GRANTS Funeral services for Rosa Anderson, 80 were held this
morning Thursday Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. at Grants Mortuary Chapel with Father
Matthew Keller officiating. Burial followed at Grants Memorial Park
with BPO Does #159 honor services.
A visitation was held on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at Grants Mortuary Chapel
and a rosary was recited at 7 p.m.
Anderson died Jan. 15 in Tye, Texas. She was born Sept. 20, 1924 in
Germany.
Anderson became a U.S. Citizen in 1955. She was a past president of
the VFW ladies Auxiliary, past president of the BPO Does #159 where
she has served also as Drove Historian for over 16 years. She became
a Drove Life Member in 2000. Anderson assisted in Grants Milan Elks
Lodge #2053 in their charitable societies, Elks National Foundation,
Charitable and Benevolent Trust, and Cerebral Palsy.
She is survived by her daughter; Diana Caswell of Tye, Texas; brother;
Joseph; sisters; Maria, Hidwig, Irmgard, and Erica, all of Germany;
and one granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by Oskar Schwemmer; her husband, John Anderson
Jr. and her parents; Joseph and Anna Puchinger.
Pallbearers will be Marshall Goodwin, Robert Hays, Leo Sprunk, Douglas
Brumbelow, Virgil Brumbelow, and Twig Hollar.
Tom Jack
BLACKWATER Funeral services for Tom Jack, 87, will be at 10
a.m. on Friday, Jan. 21 at the New Life Pentecostal Church. Pastor Rholinda
Cook will officiate. Burial will follow in the Thoreau Community Cemetery.
Jack died Jan. 16 in Gallup. He was born Sept. 15, 1917 in Haystack.
Jack was a rancher and silversmith who enjoyed being active and sheepherding.
He worked for Ciniza Refinery.
Survivors include his son, Ollie Jack; daughters, Marie Keene of Harrisburg
Ill.; Susie Chavez of Rio Rancho; Geneva Bennett of Thoreau, Sheena
Jack of Prewitt; brother, Sam Jack of Prewitt; sister, Francis Delgarito
of Haystack; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Francis Jack.
Pallbearers will be Shane Bennett, Kevin Bennett, Chistopher Jack, Shawn
Bennett, Sandra Bennett and Fred Bennett.
Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Annie Yazzie Shorty
CORNFIELD Funeral services for Annie Y. Shorty, 82, will be
at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 21 at the Glory Temple. Pastor Sammy Begay
will officiate. Burial will follow in the Cornfields cemetery.
Shorty died Jan. 15 in Ganado. She was born July 1, 1922 in Cornfields
into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Redhouse People Clan.
Survivors include her sons, Tony Shorty, Leon Shorty, both of Cornfields;
daughters, Caroline S. Yellowman of Fruitland and Ancita Nez of Cornfields.
Shorty was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Y. Shorty; sons,
Lorenzo Shorty and Nixon Shorty.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Cornfields Chapter
follow the services.
