James Martin Sr.
PINEDALE Funeral services for James Martin, Sr., 84, will be
at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20 at Cope Memorial Chapel. Pastor Jones
Dehiya will officiate. Burial will be on Rainbow Trail Road in Pinedale.
Martin died Jan. 15 in Pinedale. He was born June 12, 1920 in Pinedale
into the Two Who Came to the Water People Clan for the Mountain Cove
People Clan.
Martin attended Pinedale Catholic School. He was employed with the Wingate
Army Depot and the Navajo Police in Window Rock, Chinle, Tuba City,
Kayenta, and Crownpoint areas, ONEO in Crownpoint and Pinedale, Kerr
McGee Mine and Gulf Mineral Resource. Martin was a WWII Veteran. A member
of the Pinedale Chapter and a chapter official he was active in Pinedale
Senior citizen committee, Veterans committee, land committee and planning
committee. Martin enjoyed reading, exercising, basketball games, western
movies and driving.
Survivors include his sons, James Martin, Jr. of Churchrock, Norman
Martin, Samuel Parker both of Pinedale; daughters, Lucille Martin-Ross,
Darlene Martin both of Churchrock, Bonnie Martin Young of Devils Lake,
N.D., Marlene Martin-Tsosie of Gallup, Martee Martin-Charley of Pinedale,
Helen Frank, Esther Frank both of Sunnyside Ranch; step-mother, Mary
Martin of Pinedale; brothers, Jimmy Martin, Sammy Martin, Glibert Martin,
Robert Martin all of Pinedale, Phillip Martin of Twin Lakes; sisters,
Shirley Martin of Pinedale; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Martin was preceded in death by his sons, Marvin Martin, Bennie Martin,
Daniel Parker, Bobby C. Frank; father, Haskie Martin; mother, Lucille
Largo-Martin; brothers, Jay Martin, David Martin, Nelson Martin, Bill
Martin, Sr.; sisters, Cecelia Miller and Emma Holtsoi.
Pallbearers will be family members.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Pinedale Chapter
House.
Cope Memorial is in charge of arrangements.
Hope Martin
GRANTS Funeral services for Hope Martin, 78, will be at 11 a.m.
on Friday, Jan. 21 at the Immanuel Baptist Church. Rev. Garland Moore
will officiate. Burial will follow in the Grants Memorial Park.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 20 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Grants
Mortuary.
Martin died Jan. 16 in Grants. She was born July 18, 1927 in Rock, W.Va..
Martin moved to Grants in 1958. She worked as a clerk in a local grocery
store and retired after 23 years of service. Martin was a member of
the Immanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Danny Martin of Tenn.; daughters, Darlene
Hawkins of Grants, Donna Walker of Nev., Deborah Houser of Nev.; sister,
Betty Blecher of W.Va.; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and
1 great-great grandchild.
Martin is preceded in death by her husband, Arlie Martin
her parents, Henry and Bessie Blankenship. Pallbearers will be Lonnie
Hawkins, Steve Foster, Stoney Foster, Robby Martin, Joshua Martin and
Toby Bean.
David Yazzie, Sr.
NAVAJO Funeral services for David Mike Yazzie, Sr., 66, were
at 10 a.m. this morning, Jan. 19 at the Mexican Springs Full Gospel
Church. Alfred Watchman officiated. Burial followed in Lone Pine cemetery.
Yazzie died Jan. 13 in Navajo. He was born Jan. 31, 1938 in Fort Defiance
into the Towering House People Clan for the Waters Edge People Clan.
Yazzie attended Albuquerque Indian school and was in the Army National
Guard for three years. He worked for the railroad and received a certificate
in agriculture. He then worked for Navajo Forest Product Industries
for 22 years. He enjoyed reading and cooking.
Survivors include his sons, Dexter Yazzie; brothers, Tommy Barnett,
Sr., Raymond Catron; sisters, Alice Mae Ramone and Nellie Little.
Yazzie was preceded in death by his son, David Mike Yazzie, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Freddie Sarracino, Norman Catron, Danny Ramone,
Bobby Ramone, Sr., Paul Denetdale and James Lennon.
A reception will be held at the Mexican Springs Chapter following services.

Hasbah L. Curley
SALINA SPRINGS Funeral services for Hasbah L. Curley, 67, will
be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20 at the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints in Chinle. Bishop James Higgs will officiate. Burial
will be in the Chinle Community Cemetery.
Curley died Jan. 14 in Shiprock. She was born Oct. 23, 1938 in Salina
Springs into the Many Goat People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.
Survivors include her husband, Robert H. Curley, Sr. of Newcomb; sons,
Robert H. Curley, Jr. of Salina Springs, Bobby H. Curley of Chinle;
daughters, Alfreda G. Nathaniel of Nashitti, Perfinna C. Anderson of
Chinle, Josephine Curley of Salina Springs; brothers, Kee Tso Lee, Ben
S. Lee, Billy S. Lee, Alfred S. Lee, Mike S. Lee; sisters, Esabell Burbank,
Mary Shirley, Adeline Lee, Elsie Tracey, Darlene L. Curley and 23 grandchildren.
Curley was preceded in death by her father, Sam Lee.
Pallbearers will be Robert H. Curley, Jr., Farley H. Curley, Bobby H.
Curley, Ronald Begaye, Jr., Henderson Curley and Francis Stewart.
A reception will be held at the Robert H. Curley, Sr. home in Salina
Springs.
Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Alice Saunders Jones
CONTINENTAL DIVIDE Funeral services for Alice S. Jones,77, will
be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20 at the Thoreau Baptist Church. Rev.
Glenn Marshall will officiate. Burial will in the Thoreau cemetery.
Jones died Jan. 15 in Albuquerque. She was born Nov. 1, 1927 in Continental
Divide into the Water Flows Together People Clan for the Black Streak
People Clan.
Jones enjoyed weaving, sheepherding, sewing, telling stories and cooking
for family.
Survivors include her sons, Herbert Yazzie, Sr., Sam Yazzie, Sr., Jones
Yazzie all of Continental Divide; daughters, Betty A. Charley, Genevie
E. Mirelez, Angie S. Jim, Irene Y. Charley all of Continental Divide;
brothers, Peter Saunders, Sr. of Mariano Lake, Eddie Saunders of Thoreau;
31 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Yazzie and Buck Jones;
son, Dan Yazzie; daughter, Elouise Yazzie; parents, Navajo Jim and Ellen
Saunders; brothers, Alfred Saunders, Phillip Saunders, Michael Saunders;
sister, Bernice Charley; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Sam Yazzie, Sr., Herbert Yazzie, Sr., Herman Jim,
Jr., Ellison Charley, Eric Yazzie and Sam Yazzie, Jr.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Thoreau Chapter
following services.
