WINDOW ROCK The Navajo Nation Council work session on Aze Bee
Nahagha which had been scheduled for today, has been postponed. The session
will take place
before the council's spring session, the speaker's office announced late
Tuesday evening. However, unless
removed, legislation to amend Title 17 of the Navajo Nation Code by enacting
the Aze Bee Nahagha Act of 2004 is still on the agenda for the council's
winter session.
Udall address
SANTA FE U.S. Rep. Tom Udall, D-N.M., was scheduled to address
the New Mexico State Legislature at 10 a.m. today. Five members of the
New Mexico congressional delegation are invited to speak before the Legislature
during its 60-day session which began Tuesday. Udall is expected to announce
his support for many preventive health-care proposals being advanced by
Gov. Bill Richardson and individual legislators.
In his weekly radio address, N.M. Sen. Pete Domenici, said he is hopeful
the Legislature will make careful progress on water issues, prudent tax
reform, meaningful education improvements, and economic development and
job-training programs.
Natural gas conference
WASHINGTON, D.C. The New Mexico Oil and Gas Association is one
of 32 groups invited to participate in a half-day bipartisan conference
to discuss proposed solutions to the predicted U.S. shortage of natural
gas when the Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee, chaired
by N.M. Sen. Pete Domenici, meets Jan. 24 in Washington.
The conference was announced last month and the public was invited to
submit written proposals to address various aspects of what is expected
to be a significant gap between natural gas supply and demand in coming
years.
The conference has been divided into six sessions and participants each
will have two minutes to introduce their proposals and make their main
points. The committee received more than 120 proposals from the public,
gas producers, utilities, environmentalists, universities,
think tanks and state and federal agencies.
