Grants Conoco robbed

By Jim Tiffin

GRANTS — The Conoco gas station at 800 E. Santa Fe here was robbed at gunpoint early Friday morning.

Grants police are seeking the public's help in finding the armed robber.

At 5 a.m., just as the station opened, a male wearing a hood and a scarf or some type of clothing over his mouth and nose entered and pointed a handgun at the female clerk.

Grants Police Chief Marty Vigil said the suspect is possibly Hispanic. Police determined the sex and race of the suspect from looking at the store's videotape and what he said to the clerk, Vigil said.

The robber took cash only and police are not releasing how much. The clerk was not injured.

When the suspect left the store, he was on foot. There was no vehicle or any other persons waiting for him.

The suspect is described as male, possibly Hispanic, 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall and between 130-145 pounds.

Police ask that anyone who may have information on the suspect or the incident call the Cibola County Crimestoppers at 287-8400 or the police department at 287-4404.

All callers may remain anonymous.
