Jerry Franklin

TWIN LAKES — Funeral services for Jerry Franklin, 54, will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 11 at Rehoboth Christian Reformed Church. Pastor Roger Scarbrough will officiate. Burial will be in Rehoboth Mission Cemetery.

Franklin died Jan. 6 in Phoenix, Ariz. He was born Jan. 14, 1950 in Fort Defiance into the Mexican People Clan for the Zia People Clan.

Survivors include his daughters, Connie Franklin of Farmington, Kerry Franklin of Twin Lakes, Wynice Franklin of Albuquerque; sisters, Anita Chicharello of Gallup, Sadie Jefferson of Twin Lakes; brothers, Ernest Franklin Sr. and Mark Franklin Sr. both of Twin Lakes, Norman Franklin of Brimhall, N.M.; five grandchildren.

Franklin was preceded in death by his father, James Franklin; mother, Marita T. Franklin; brother, David Franklin.

Pallbearers will be Darrell Atkins, Darrick Franklin, Julian Franklin, Mark Franklin, Sr., Norman Franklin, Wayne Franklin and Dominic Jefferson.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.


Antonio G. Diaz

CUBERO, N.M. — Funeral mass for Antonio G. Diaz, 87, will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 12 at Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church in Cubero, N.M. Burial will be in Cubero Community Cemetery.

A rosary will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 11 also at Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church in Cubero, N.M.

Diaz died Jan. 9 in Cubero, N.M. He was born July 19, 1917 in Cubero, N.M.

Diaz was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army. During the War, he received a Purple Heart and 2 Bronze stars.

Survivors include his wife, Adelina Baca Diaz of Cubero, N.M., sons Benny Diaz of Cubero, N.M., Tony (Chico) Diaz Jr., Edward Diaz both of Grants, Victor Diaz of Milan, N.M.; daughters, Christine Lopez of Milan, N.M., Marylou Longoria of Milan, N.M., Linda Rael of Grants, Sarah Urbina of Milan, N.M.; sister, Rebecca Otero of Albuquerque; 29 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Diaz was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Federcia Diaz; son, Freddie Diaz.

Pallbearers will be Tony Diaz, Dominic Lopez, Michael Diaz, Raul Longoria, Benny Diaz, Glen Scholby, Elvis Diaz, Shawn Longoria, Alfred Rael, Johnathon Urbina, Victor Diaz, Mattew Diaz and Lloyd Lopez.

Compassion Mortuary of Grants is in charge of arrangements.


Leona Nez Begay

STEAMBOAT, Ariz. — Funeral services for Leona Nez Begay, 86, will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 11 at the All Saints Mission. Father Flann O' Neil will officiate. Burial will be in Cornfield, Cornfield, Ariz.

Begay died Jan. 6 in Ganado, Ariz. She was born August 8, 1919 in Steamboat, Ariz. into the Big Water People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Begay attended St. Michael Indian Mission School from 1926-1934 and also attended Fort Defiance Mission School. She completed 8th grade. She was a homemaker, weaver, and housewife.

Survivors include her sons, David Begay, Bruce Begay, Danny Begay; daughters, Ella B. Jim, Maggie A. Nelson, Elouis Begay, Marie A. Begay, Rose Begay, Rena Begay; sisters, Maggie Kayonnie and Mae Kee; 33 grandchildren and 49 grandchildren.

Begay was preceded in death by her husband, Neswood Begay; brothers, Albert Kee and Ken Elliot.

Pallbearers will be Erick Begay, Viadel Nelson, Deviel Nelson, Kevin Jim, Jerome Begay and Shawn Begay.

Tse Bonito is in charge of arrangements.


Benjamin Clyde Shirley

GALLUP — Funeral services for Benjamin Clyde Shirley, 22 will be announced at a later date.

Shirley died Jan. 8 in Gallup. He was born February 12, 1982 in Gallup.

Compassion Mortuary of Grants is in charge of arrangements.
