Mary Turner
GALLUP Memorial services for Mary Turner, 95, will be at 11
a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26 at the First Baptist Church. Pastor Jay McCollum
will officiate.
Turner died Feb. 20 in Gallup. She was born Aug. 27, 1909 in Bluefield,
W.Va.
Turner graduated from Marshall College in Huntington, W.Va. and taught
school for three years. She worked for Petrie stores for 55 years.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Turner of Grants; daughters, Greta
Lopez of Gallup, Mary Bain of Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren, 12
great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Turner was preceded in death by her father, Oly Keeney and mother, Marissa
Hudgens.
Compassion Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Edward Upshaw, Sr.
SANDERS Funeral services for Edward Mark Upshaw, Sr., 58, will
be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Houck Catholic Church. Father
Cormac, O.F.M. will officiate. Burial will be on private land in Sanders.
Upshaw, Sr. died Feb. 19 in Sanders. He was born March 5, 1946 in Sanders
into the Edge Water People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.
Upshaw, Sr. served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a recipient
of the Bronze Star. He was a member of the International Brotherhod
of Boilmakers Local 627. He enjoyed watching boxing, golf, basketball,
football and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Valentina Mae Upshaw of Sanders; daughters,
Erica Bennett, Edwinna Truax,both of Flagstaff, Barbara Upshaw of Leupp,
Edith Upshaw, EuKayla Upshaw, Euriah Upshaw, Loretta Upshaw, Norma Upshaw,
all of Sanders; son, Edwin Mark Upshaw of Mesa, Ariz.; sister, Goldie
Rial of Sanders; and 15 grandchildren.
Upshaw, Sr. was preceded in death by his father, Leo Upshaw, Sr.; mother,
Edna Upshaw; son, Edward Upshaw, Jr.; daughter, Eugena Upshaw; sister,
Pearl Espitia and brother, Leo Upshaw, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Richard Chester, Calvin Gaddy, Anderson H. Morgan,
Ray Puente and Donald Shirley.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Sam D. Shirley
FORT DEFIANCE Funeral mass for Sam D. Shirley, 91, will be at
10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26 at Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament. Father
Gilbert Schneider, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in a private
family cemetery in Deer Springs.
A rosary will be recited this evening at 6 p.m. at Our Lady of Blessed
Sacrament.
Shirley died Feb. 23 in Fort Defiance. He was born Oct. 5, 1913 in Deer
Springs into the Honeycombed Rock People Clan for the One Who Walks
Around People Clan.
Shirley was a rancher. He served in WWII as a sergeant in the 158 Infantry
Bushmasters regiment in the Asiain Pacific Theater including Guadalcanal,
Panama Canal, New Guinea and the Philippines. He was a Purple Heart
recipient. Shirley retired from the BIA in 1968 following 30 years of
employment as a surveyor with the roads department.
Survivors include his daughters, Kathy Collins of Fort Defiance, Velma
Shirley of Window Rock; sister, Ann Shirley of Ganado; brothers, Bernard
Shirley of Dallas, Texas, Walter Shurley of Winslow; nine grandchildren
and 11 great-grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Marie Shirley; father,
Nat Begay; mother, Mary Shirley-Begay; son, Sam Shirley, Jr.; brothers,
Harry Shirley, John Shirley, Phillip Shirley and sister, Annie Dodge
Wauneka.
Pallbearers will be Gabriel Collins, Joseph Collins, Sonny Collins,
William Collins III, Corey Manuelito, Josh Manuelito, and Travis Manuelito.

Larson White, Sr.
RAMAH Funeral services for Larson White, Sr., 43, will be at
10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Ramah Nazarene Church. Pastor Herman
Nelle will officiate. Burial will be in the Ramah Community Cemetery.
White, Sr. died Feb. 21 in Flagstaff. He was born Nov. 4, 1961 in Zuni
into the Mexican People Clan for the Meadow People Clan.
Survivors include his mother, Verda White of Ramah; daughter, Denise
Arlana White of Ramah; son, Larson White, Jr.; brothers, Edward Martine
of Alamo, Edgar White of Wash., Emerson White of Ramah; sisters, Evelyn
Martine, Susie White, both of Ramah.
White, Sr. was preceded in death by his father, John White and sister,
Evangeline Martine.
Pallbearers will be Le Andrew Martine, Armondo Skeets, Marlin Skeets,
Marvin Skeets, Edgar White and Jerome White.

Allen Curley, Sr.
STEAMBOAT Funeral services for Allen Curley, Sr., 65, will be
at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints, Ganado. Burial will be in the Ganado Community Cemetery.
Curley, Sr. died Feb. 22 in Fort Defiance. He was born Sept. 30, 1939
in Ganado into the Bitterwater People Clan for the Mexican People Clan.
Curley, Sr. enjoyed the outdoors, horseback riding, rodeo, yei'bi'chii
dancing and hauling wood. He was a rancher.
Survivors include his sons, Allen Curley, Jr., Marvin Wayne Curley,
Melvin Allen Curley, Nathaniel Curley; daughters, Mary Ellen Herrera,
Charlotte Allen Lander; father, John Curley, Sr.; brothers, Everette
Curley, Elmer Curley, Emerson Curley, Larry Curley, Robert Curley, Calvin
Curley, John Curley, Jr.; sisters, Mary Ann Chambers, Marilyn Hale,
Sylvia Begay, Mary Ella Bitsuie, May Effie Curley, Myrtle Curley; 18
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Curley was preceded in death by his mother, Marion Woody.
Pallbearers will be family members.

Bascilisa Tomac-Abeyta
GALLUP Services for Bascilisa "Vangie" E. Tomac-Abeyta,
70 will be announced at a later date.
Tomac-Abetya died Feb. 23 in Gallup. She was born Jan. 9, 1935 in Mentmore.
