Up in Smoke: Gallup firefighters respond to a vehicle fire late Friday morning on U.S. 66 in the city's west end. GFD Lt. Thomas Silva said the Dodge van's owner, Tim Sneddy of Gallup, was eastbound on U.S. 66 when he noticed the van's engine was sputtering. He pulled off the road to check the vehicle, and resumed travel. Sneddy told officials that he noticed more problems with the vehicle and again pulled over. This time, he noticed fire coming from the engine compartment. U.S. 66 was temporarily closed as firefighters secured the scene. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains unders investigation. [Photo by Jeremy Schneider/Independent]
