Juan A. Lopez, Sr.
GALLUP Funeral mass and rosary for Juan Lopez, Sr., 53, will
begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5 at St. Francis Catholic Church.
Father Gonzalo Guzman, O.F.M. will officiate. Burial will follow in
Sunset Memorial Park.
A visitaion will be held today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Rollie Mortuary Palm
Chapel.
Lopez, Sr. died April 1 in Gallup. He was born March 5, 1952 in Monzano.
Lopez, Sr. was a warehouseman for the Gallup McKinley County Schools.
He enjoyed mechanic work and playing the guitar.
Survivors include his wife, Velia Lopez of Gallup; mother, Esther Lopez
of Manzano; daughter, Amanda Barnett of Dalhart, Texas; sons, Gerald
Lopez of Manzano, James Lopez of Rio Rancho, Juan Lopez, Jr. of Gallup,
Lucas Lopez of Belen, David Rodriguez of Albuquerque; sisters, Juanita
Chavez of Manzano, Elma Lopez of Thoreau; brothers, Edward Lopez of
Mountainair and Manuel Lopez of Manzano; nine grandchildren.
Lopez, Sr. was preceded in death by his father, Raymundo Lopez and brother,
Guillermo Lopez.
Pallbearers will be Edward Lopez, Manuel Lopez, Alfonso Marquez, Hipolito
Resendiz, Edward Rodriguez, Marty Rodriguez and Albert Romero.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Van G. Smith
GRANTS Funeral mass for Van. G. Smith, 73, was at 11 a.m. this
morning, April 4 at St. Teresa de Avila Catholic Church. Father Matthew
Keller officiated. Burial followed at Grants Memorial Park.
A visitation was held Sunday, April 3 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Grnats Mortuary.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at St. Teresa de Avila
Catholic Church.
Smith died April 1 in Grants. He was born Jan. 2, 1932 in Baker, Minn.
Smith married in 1954 and moved to Grants in 1960. He was a band and
choir director for the Grants Public Schools. He went on to work in
the uranium industry as a safetyman and most recently worked in the
Grants Uranium Mining Museum. Smith served as choir director for St.
Teresa de Avila Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret "Marge" Smith of Grants;
sons, Brian Smith of Carlsbad, Steven Smith of Queen Creek, Ariz., Donald
Smith of Grants; daughters, Cheryl Combs of Artesia, Kathryn Lemieux
of Va., Barbara List of Albuquerque; brother, Gary Smith of Minn.; 15
grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mildred Smith and
brother, Lowell Smith.
Pallbearers were Leslie Combs Dunbar, Lindsey Combs, Earl Phelps, Carolyn
Smith, Patrick Smith, Carl Smith, Jonathon Lemieux, Julia Lemieux, Tara
Lemieux, Joshua List, Bethany List and Brandon Smith.
Family suggests contributions be made to Saint Theresa School, 400 East
High Street, Grants, in lieu of flowers.
