Notah Sam
HUNTERS POINT Funeral services for Notah Sam, 93, will be at
10 a.m. on Saturday, April 2 at the St. Michaels Mission. Father Gilbert
Schenider will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Michaels Community
Cemetery.
Sam died March 30 in Fort Defiance. He was born March 10, 1913 in Oak
Springs into the One Who Walks Around People Clan for the Water Edge
People Clan.
Sam retired from Navajo Nation Water Development. He was a member of
the Oak Springs chapter. He enjoyed sheepherding and horseback riding.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Sam of Hunters Point; sons, Nelson
Tabaha, Daniel,Tabaha both of Hunters Point, George Tabaha of Coalmine;
daughters, Christina Phillips of Oak Springs, Dorothy Plummer of Hunters
Point; sister, Ethel James of Hunters Point; 27 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren
and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Sam was preceded in death by Dominic Bitloy, Nolan Bitloy and Jerome
Mike.
Pallbearers will be Nelson Tabaha, Daniel Tabaha, George Tabaha, Curtis
Phillips, Gilbert Phillips and Gordon Phillips.
The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Michaels Chapter
House.
Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

CHURCH ROCK Funeral services for Vera Ellen Brown, 37, will
be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 2 at the Rehoboth Christian Reformed
Church. Rev. Amos Barbone will officiate. Burial will follow in the
Gallup City Cemetery.
Brown died March 29 in Gallup. She was born Nov. 7, 1967 in Gallup into
the Meadow People Clan for the Red Running into the Water People Clan.
She was a secretary for the Navajo Nation at the Church Rock Chapter
house.
Survivors include her parents, Pastor Lena Brown of Church Rock amd
Robert Brown, Sr. of Gallup; son, Danny Brown of Church Rock; daughter,
Samantha Brown of Church Rock; sisters, Caroleen Haley, Verna Johnny,
Dorene Johnson, all of Church Rock, Bernice Brown of Red Lake, Diane
Jim of Haystack, N.M., Pauline Brown of Albuquerque; brothers, Robert
Brown, Jr., of Phoenix, Ernest Brown of Shiprock, Alison Brown of Grants,
Emerson Brown of Springstead, Patrick Brown of Gallup, Vidal Brown of
Springstead, Delbert Brown of Church Rock.
Brown was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ned and Mae Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Frederick Duboise, Emerson Brown, Joshuain Haley,
Rabi Brown, Matthan Haley and Lorenzo Haley.
Compassion Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Ethel Yazhe
WINDOW ROCK Funeral mass for Ethel Yazhe, 90, will be at 10
a.m. on Satruday, April 2 at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Naschitti.
Father John Mittelstadt, O.F.M. will officiate. Burial will follow in
the Naschitti community cemetery.
Yazhe died March 29 in Fort Defiance. She was born Dec. 30, 1914 in
Naschitti into the Red Running into Water People Clan for the Tangle
People Clan.
Yazhe was a 1940 graduate of Northern Arizona University with a degree
in education. She retired from the BIA in 1977, after 37 years of employment.
She was a member of the St. Michaels Catholic Church and a member of
the Plateau Sciences Society. Yazhe was a volunteer at the St. Michaels
Elementary Schools. She enjoyed making rosaries, sewing and baking.
Survivors include her brothers, Ernest Yazhe of Nageezi, Herbert Yazhe
of Breadsprings, Albert Yazzie of Farmington; sisters, Marie Begay,
Clara Waska, Evelyn Billie all of Naschitti, Bertha Mann of Albuquerque
and Helen Begay of Kirtland.
Yazhe was preceded in death by her father, Taneezahni Yazhi; mother,
Nannebah Belle; brothers, Silas Yazzie, Andrew Yazzie, Harrison Yazhe;
sisters, Mary Billy, Ella Eagleman and Grace Toledo.
Pallbearers will be Leotis Denetclaw, Sal Esquibel, Larry Eagleman and
Thomas Eagleman.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Naschitti Chapter
House.
Cope Memorial is in charge of arrangements.
Thomas R. LaMance
PREWITT Funeral services for Thomas R. LaMance, 90, will be
at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 2 at the Grants Mortuary Chapel. Charles
LaMance will officiate. Burial will be in the El Morro Cemetery.
A visitation will be held this evening from 3-7 p.m. at Grants Mortuary
Chapel.
LaMance died March 28 in Prewitt. He was born in Sunset, Texas.
LaMance moved to New Mexico from Texas and married his wife in 1936.
He served in the US Army during WWII. LaMance was a member of the American
Legion, NRA and first president of the California Motorcycle Club. He
was active in the Grants Senior Citizens Center and the owner of Swap
Meet 66.
Survivors include his sons, Charlie LaMance of Bluewater, Bob LaMance
and Jack LaMance, all of Modesto, Calif., Donald LaMance of Yakima,
Wash.; brother, Tracy LaMance of Pie Town; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren
and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
LaMance was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Ruben LaMance and
Roselee LaMance; sons, Tommy LaMance, Jerry LaMance and wife, Helen
Ruth Duerkson.
Louise C. Becenti
CROWNPOINT Services are pending for Louise Becenti, 81.
Becenti died March 31 in Gallup. She was born Aug. 8, 1923 in Mariano
Lake into the Water that Flows Together People Clan.
