Arts crawl features live performers
By Elizabeth Hardin-Burrola
Staff Writer
GALLUP Saturday's April Arts Crawl will feature seven
new art exhibitions, two live musical performances on Coal Avenue, and
a staged performance piece featuring performers recruited from Arts Crawl
patrons.
Local painter and muralist Be Sargent will host her "Art and High
Tea at Be's from 5-7 p.m. at her studio, located at 113 E. Logan. The
public is invited to this monthly social gathering.
The remaining Arts Crawl events will begin at 7 p.m.
"Too Happy Guys II," a photography show by Milan Sklenar and
Bill Siebersma will open at The Coffee House, 203 W. Coal.
The Crashing Thunder Gallery, 228 W. Coal, will host a reception for "Transient,"
a photography show by Jeannie Ortiz.
Gallery 213, located at 213 W. Coal, will make its debut during Saturday's
Arts Crawl. The two gallery spaces formerly occupied by the now defunct
Gallery 211 have been taken over by the folks who produce the monthly
Gallup Journey magazine. The Gallup Journey will be hosting art shows
and live music performances during upcoming Arts Crawls. This month Gallery
213 will feature original artwork by Gallup artist Paul Newman and selected
DSI artists. Live music is also scheduled. For more information about
scheduling future art exhibits or musical performances, contact Nate Haveman
at (505) 862-1089 or Chuck Van Drunen at (505) 862-1414.
The Machina Gallery, located in the Lexington Hotel, 408 W. Historic Route
66, will present "Peep Show" by Scott Snaden and "Small
Appliances" by John Butler. "Peep Show" is an interactive
installation involving machines, multimedia pieces, and a performance
piece featuring Art Show patrons as volunteer performers. "Small
Appliances" is inspired by the book "Secrets of Enoch,"
which is about a machine apparatus used by spirits.
The Primal Image Gallery, 233 W. Coal, will feature "Mixing it Up,"
a solo exhibition by Lisa LeGros Nunes. In addition, Nunes and her husband,
Tom, will present a live performance with the same title. The reception
will run until 10 p.m.
Vital Connections, 222 W. Coal, will feature work this month by Sylvia
Gusik, Adis Soriano, Darrel Henderson, Mary Jane Milz, Michael Lewis,
David Montelongo, Rafael Torres, and Gerard Terrien.
Businesses having extended hours for Saturday's Arts Crawl will include
Dominic's Downtown Restaurant, 303 W. Coal, and Primal Image T-shirts,
231 W. Coal.
Local galleries and businesses interested in participating in the monthly
Arts Crawl should send notices of their upcoming art exhibits and musical
performances to Elizabeth Hardin-Burrola at The Independent via e-mail:
