GALLUP — Sheriff's deputies are conducting an investigation
into the suspicious death of a 44-year-old Vanderwagen man.
Harry Tsosie, of 612 Cousins Road, was found dead on the railroad tracks
near the 122 mile post of the railway. The tracks are near Thoreau.
BNSF Railway employee's found the man at about 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday and
reported their findings to the sheriff's department. An autopsy was conducted
on Tsosie
and the results indicated a suspicious death, Under Sheriff John Yearley said.
Initially, investigators could not determine whether Tsosie had been killed
by an oncoming train or if he was killed beforehand. However, the autopsy revealed
Tsosie was suffering from brain hemorrhaging prior to being hit by a train.
"He has some suspicious injuries," Yearley said. " ... A train
death is usually instantaneous."
Yearley said family members told investigators that Tsosie sometimes jumped
aboard the trains and would ride back and forth between various locations.
Family members had not seen Tsosie for more than a month prior to his death.
Individuals with information concerning the incident, may call investigators
at the McKinley County Sheriff's Department at 722-7205.
