WINDOW
ROCK — Navajo Nation Vice President Frank Dayish Jr. announced
the winner of the "Buy Navajo" slogan and logo contest
last night.
Phylander L. Kirk, 21, of Fort Defiance took first place, landing a
laptop donated by OnSat Communications and $300 from NAPA Auto Parts.
Shawn
Ahkeah, 30, of Shiprock,
New Mexico took second and Christopher Bryant, 27, of Chinle, Ariz., placed
third. Navajo Nation division directors and employees selected the
winners from 41 entries.
"We are all very proud of Phylander and his excellent work on the new Navajo
Nation business logo and slogan," Dayish said. "This is only
the beginning of a prosperous business initiative that my office and many
others have been
working on with the Navajo Nation Economic Development Committee."
The winning logo represents the circulation of goods and services on the
Diné Nation, Kirk said.
"We as Diné for generations have survived and made a living by utilizing
the land for farming to grow agricultural produce, our creativity to make jewelry
and elaborate textile rugs, our imagination to compose works of art, and our
knowledge to pursue an education to start our own business," Kirk
said.
Kirk also said that the corn stalk represented products and progression
and the green halo signifies the "import and export of goods on the
Diné Nation."
