Statistics for these areas and statewide are available for
the past 10 years, ending with the 2002-2003 school year. Numbers for
the 2003-2004
school year are not yet available from the Alternative education Unit
of the New Mexico Department of Education.
In Grants in 1993-1994, there were 33 students home schooled; Gallup
had 104 and statewide there were 4,038.
Numbers go up in most cases, in some years they decline slightly, with Grants
having the most students home schooled in its school district within the past
10 years in 1999-2000, with 64. Gallup had 164 the same year, also the most
during the past 10 years. Statewide that year, there were 6,732, again the
most in the
state during the past 10 years.
The numbers speak for themselves. Following are the numbers for the past 10
school years in reverse order beginning with 2002-2003:
