ZUNI Shalako, the Zuni religious ceremony which usually takes
place 49 days after the 10th full moon, has been postponed this year.
It will take place Dec. 14 and 15 and once again, the Zuni government
is not encouraging outsiders to attend...

the 19th Navajo Nation Council will be asked to support important
amendments to the Navajo-Hopi Land Settlement Act of 1974 during its
seventh special session Thursday and Friday.
Exactly which proposals to change the 25-year-old law that led to
the massive relocation of Navajo families will be decided today...

Hopi Reservation and Laguna-Acoma Pueblo but not to fight the
Japanese as the Navajo Code Talkers did during World War II.

McKinley girl ill with virus
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) An 11-year-old girl was in critical
condition Tuesday after contracting hantavirus.
The girl, whose name was withheld, was the 10th case of hantavirus
this year in New Mexico.
She was admitted to University Hospital here on Nov. 24...

Mexican Springs official scolded

WINDOW ROCK Although he violated the Ethics in Government Law,
the grazing officer of the Mexican Springs Chapter wont have
to pay $360 he accepted for attending planning meetings, the Ethics
and Rules Committee of the Navajo Nation Council decided Tuesday.
Timothy Bitsilly also will have to take training in both the Local
Governance Act and ethics and will be a public reprimand, all within
six months...

Explosives team deactivates remaining
shells
FORT WINGATE, N.M. (AP) A state police explosives team deactivated
a batch of ammunition at Fort Wingate Army Depot after two people
were injured, one critically, when a 105 mm cannon shell exploded.
Georgina Horting, 25, of Zuni, suffered abdominal injuries in the
accident Monday and was transferred to University Hospital in Albuquerque.
She remained in critical condition Tuesday...
